Hi all

got my GC valid till 2020 in the mail yesterday

Going to scan the mailer in addition to keep it to speed application

in case I lose it.

Nice high tech card.

Nervous about losing it.

Am I supposed to go around with it or keep it at home?????

Courage to the ones waiting for their visa!

October 10th entered US with Visa Waiver Program for 2 weeks holidays (not usual with visa received!)

had to go through secondary inspections to explain

November 25th entered again US with WVP, officer did not notice my green card visa

left US on dec 28 to avoid meeting the substantial presence test for IRS

Jan 9 2010 entered and activated green card though PHL port of entry

waiting for SSN requested with DS230 and 10 years GC

01-30 received tracking number for GC Welcome issued on 01-27

but not yet SSN

SSN expected by Feb 20 else I might go and ask for one regardless of DS230

GC expected by March 27

Feb 3 2010 update card ordered says to allow for 30 days

Feb 8 2010 update saying approval notice sent

Feb 12 2010 received GC card Permanent resident valid till 2020

Feb 18 2010 went to file ss5 for ssn card as not yet received and center would not find me in ssn files

I was told at my interview that I needed to carry my green card on me at all times. However, after I lost my wallet and spent 3 frantic hours looking for it and fretting about my lost green card, I realized it isn't worth it. I carry a photocopy of the green card on me but leave the original at home.

I was told to carry mine on me at all times as well. I do keep it in my purse but I am always nervous about losing it. I think canadian_wife's idea of carrying a photocpoy is a great idea . :thumbs:

My husband got his and the CBP officers keep trying to scare the $hit out of him because everytime he enters (he has to come and go every week from the US for his job) tell him "be sure no to lose that"!!! He is paranoid now!!!

You are required to keep with you your proof of legal presence; so keep it with you but don't take it out and waive it around.. :P

In North Carolina they actually put on my husband's license that he is in the country legally. I wonder if he needs to keep his green card on him? Does any other state do this?

I carry a color photocopy with me. They come out/look pretty good. If someone HAS to see the original card, you can always go get it.
