Donate any organs that can be used, cremate the rest. No viewings. I hated the ones I've been to.

Hubby wants a viewing, wants a gravestone and wants me to visit often and miss him terribly. He keeps saying he wants to always be remembered by his family and friends and doesn't want to donate anything.

As far as our death wishes go, we're on complete opposite sides and joke/argue about it all the time.

He says he wants me to have the japanese tradition of having like a memorial at home with candles and his picture. I call him selfish. :P

It's funny that this poll is going on..It has been a subject of interest for me and my family lately. I had a brother that passed away the end of last year, so it's still fresh in our memories. I have all ready signed the paperwork to be a organ donor and I do want to be buried. As far as having a viewing, I leave that up to my family, since it will be for the living, I won't care. Some people do need the closure. My sister in law had a closed viewing for just family who wanted to see my brother before the funeral. I was the only one who went with her to the viewing. I guess I needed the closure.

Even now, I find myself thinking of my brother like he is just away at work, then reality sets in and I am glad I got to see him "one last time". My brother didn't want to have everyone crying because he was gone, so we just had a small graveside service for the immediate family and a few loving great aunts and uncles. Afterwards, we had a celebration of life for him where we all got together and played cards, and talked. Doing the things he loved to do.

I thought that was the greatest tribute we could have done for him. We were lucky because we knew when he was at the end of his life. That isn't always the norm.

I would want my family to do whatever they needed to do to go on and know that it is all right with me.

to be honest i think they should dig a hole in the backyard and just put me there. i think it's an absurd that you have to pay to die. Did you know the average funeral cost $9000? you can buy 1/3 of a car with that. Crazy.

I just don't want my family to have to spend a lot of money on me when I pass - even though I have life insurance. I'd like to donate my body to science and my organs to those that can use them. Finally, I want to be cremated and my husband can decide what to do with my ashes - hopefully he will send some of them out over Lake Titicaca and keep the rest in a pretty urn.

As for a viewing, well, if I'm being studied by med students I don't think that will be an option, but I do want my loved ones to celebrate my life and have a party :).

I have always preferred the idea of being buried. Organ donation undecided at this point, but I definitely want my body to decompose in the ground. I don't know why, but the idea of becoming part of the earth again is very important to me. I'm sure somehow, sometime that ashes become part of the earth again, but for me I'd rather do it in a way I perceive as more natural.

Probably no viewing, have never thought of it. I do want a big funeral but I don't want it to be sad at all. I'd love for the eulogy be about all the silly or funny things I've done with my life, along with all my achievements (those are also pending,).

I don't think I've been to a viewing, though I have been to an open-casket funeral. I don't really have an opinion on seeing the body after death, though I don't think I'd want to be embalmed. I'd rather be left as is. Just put some nice clothes on me and spray me with some Febreze and we're good.

Really undecided on it, not sure if I think that if I don't make a decision then I won't die, silly I know. Like others I am not interested in a bunch of money being spent though.
