I got teary eyed watching the Georgian team walk down the arena. What happened to the luge athlete was extremely heartbreaking...Gracious. I can't imagine the pain his mother is feeling...Same with his teammates.

I'm too lazy to backread..did anyone see the video?? I know it's a freak accident but I feel there's a bit of an oversight in the organizer's fault as they did not do enough to safeguard the course's surroundings - - considering it's an awfully fast and dangerous track.

So heartbreaking...

I'm working on it! Just a bit more, waiting for the outdoor torch to be lit.

Okay, seems the show's over now.

Now there's a little speech going now. They're speaking of the athlete who passed away from an accident on the luge track.

Now the CEO is welcoming everyone to Vancouver. His English was kinda choppy, but I'd have a hard time talking in front of all those people too! Talking about stuff, etc etc. You know, those sappy speeches everyone loves.

And another small speech, part in French too. I may be Canadian, but I can't understand a whole lot of it!

Now another song. I angry sighed cause I just want to watch the cauldron get lit  It was sung really nicely though. I did like it.

Now the Olympic flag is being brought in by 8 famous Canadians. My husband had to question who Terry Fox was... but I guess I can't be too surprised  They gave the flag to the mounties, and now someone's singing (In Opera! I love opera!) the Olympic theme. Her dress is nice and her hair is a giant poof! That was pretty amazing.

One minute silence for the athlete that died, and they put the flags to half mast. May he rest in peace (F)

Now the players oath, which was short and sweet. The officials oath was in French.

And in comes Rick Hansen, he gives the flame to Katrina... I missed her last name, then she gives it to Steve Nash, he gives it to Nancy Green, she gives it to Wayne Gretzky! Honestly, he kinda looks like my dad a bit.

He's walking to a random spot on the floor, and now they're all waiting for the cauldron. It's taking a while, sounds like a mechanical failure! Just stand there and smile guys

Ooh, three poles are rising from the floor, looks like they may be missing one. Looks kinda cool, now the middle part is coming from the floor, looks like the cauldron. Too bad the 4th pole didn't work. They put the flame into the poles and then it lit the cauldron, interesting way to do it, having 4 people light it instead of just one. Too bad it malfunctioned though.

Woo, fireworks!

Oh, Wayne's running away to the outdoor cauldron! Harhar, he's on a truck getting taken to the outdoor touch. People chased after him then he lit the torch.

The end. :D

Funny thing is the silly announces said it was 11pm Central time, but it's actually 1am central time. This channel's dissapointing too. My husband wants to see biathalon, it's at 1pm PST but they dont play it till 1am! I don't get it.

I'm in the timezone, why can't they show it in real time? I mean, the opening here started 2 hours late in the timezone it's actually in! I need a better channel for this.

Thanks Rhiannercakes. I'm watching the rebroadcast, I missed a lot of the opening . WOW.

re: your channel lineup. Uhm... Do you have CABLE TV at all? USA , CNBC, MSNBC and yer local NBC affiliate are all broadcasting the games. Maybe it's time to find a friend with cable, plan a party ?

Warmest Regards...

PS - anyone in Honolulu reading this? I'd appreciate yer run-down, as yer watching it..

I think cable, the "box" says Direct TV.

I don't think they ordered half the local/US channels because they're chinese and don't speak much english

No friends around here either sadly. Guess I'll just have to try and watch it online.

OK - you should have USA channel.

Then there's CNBC ,

MSNBC

and yer local NBC affiliate.

The games are covered on all 4 of these channels.

Good Luck (or something ).

In Texas - 'Direct TV' is a satellite dish service.

Yeah, it's actually sattellite, haha.

And I looked through the whole guide, I only found the olympics on 2 channels, we dont get one of them.

The coverage here isn't so bad, my silly husband ended up looking at the replay times, so we can still watch it on good hours
