Certified Translation of our Marriage Certificate

We have a certified translation of our marriage certificate that we had done in Pakistan. Is that acceptable for AOS or do we have to get a certified translation done here in the U.S. ?

As long as you had translation done and certified with golden seal on PK RS stamped paper you should be okay. If you do not understand what I mean, please ask your husband who should be able to get it what I said here.

Note that the USCIS allows anyone competent in English and the other language to certify a translation. Also note that the USCIS doesn't require or recognize any type of certification of the translator.

The USCIS even allows you to do your own translations, as long as you're willing to certify them using the model language of the certification statement on the USCIS website. That's what we did, and we had no issues.

Not that it applies to the case in this thread, for the benefit of those seeking visas, remember that consulates aren't part of the USCIS, and some consulates may have rules regarding translations that are different from the USCIS rules. But AOS doesn't involve a consulate, and you can use USCIS rules for AOS.

From the USCIS "General tips" page:

Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Signature_________________________________

Date Typed Name

Address
