Missed my biometrics appointment in Michigan because i didn't receive the appointment notice letter until the day after because i was away on vacation.

Should i attempt to do a walk-in on Tuesday - apparently ASC's arent open on Saturdays any more and Monday is a Federal holiday.

Or should i simply try and re-schedule by mail?

Will this directly affect an application for travel seeing as the I-131 does not require biometircs?

Not to scare you but this could affect everything. Failing to get the letter because you were on vacation is no excuse. You are supposed to have someone check your mail. Some people don't even go on vacation until they've finished the biometrics and interview just so they don't miss this stuff...

I honestly don't know whether you can just "walk in" afterward or if they'll just send you a denial notice from the day you miss it.

Please complete your timeline as i have no idea what you've applied for or when you did. I suggest making an infopass appointment to discuss your case. Biometrics are for EAD and GC.

Vanessa is right. Besides, it's in the biometrics letter that failure to show up during the appointment means that you have abandoned your case. Other VJers will surely suggest some options for you to consider.

No need to scare the OP.

Had the same situation and no problems with doing biometrics on next business day after it was scheduled. Show up on Tuesday and explain to them that the notice wasn't received on time due to travel.

Uh... good. People in your ASC must have been warm and kind.

Do you people ever think before you write something like this. You have no experience with the situation yet you deem yourself an authority. The amount of scaremoungering that goes on in this community is ridiculous.

I am adjusting my status but it would make very little difference to the context of the question

Thank you. This was helpful

I think the issue is we don't know when the interview was. Was it supposed to be yesterday? Or was it more like a week or so ago? The OP I was worded in a manner that suggested that this didn't "just" happen. "because i didn't receive the appointment notice letter until the day after because i was away on vacation" most times people would have said "my appointment was yesterday but I just got back today from vacation to find the letter TELLING me that.. what do I do?"

I've been doing a little reading on it and in SOME cases people have called walked in and had the appointment and all is well. In other cases the case was considered abandoned and they had to pay a fee to appeal it. It almost all cases people called the NVC to see what they said.

Hopefully they can simply send you another letter, or they'll tell you to just "walk in" and your call will stop them thinking you've abandoned your case.

In either event this is serious. Very very serious. Call NVC ASAP.

I don't think that's the right way to say it. If the "authority" hasn't read your post, you wouldn't get anywhere anyway. You should be a little grateful. Besides, if you even bothered to read the welcome note on VJ's homepage, it states: We encourage all members to seek a qualified immigration attorney as this site is no substitute for the valuable help and advice a good attorney can provide!

VJ also writes in its Terms of Service that if the users are dissatisfied, they may leave. Read your biometrics letter of appointment, too. It does say that failure to show up during the appointment means that you have abandoned your case.

Vanessa said "this could," not "this would."

My appointment was yesterday. I recieved the appointment letter today after i arrived home. Whre exactly do you get your information that being on vacation is no excuse, because as far as i can tell that seems to be a perfectly reasonable excuse

I agree that since it is the biometrics notice, try a walk-in appointment the next available business day and explain that you did not receive the notice in time to make the originally scheduled appointment. You can bring proof of your travel arrangements with you if you wish.

If you are turned away, then you need to contact USCIS - you can make an Infopass appointment - bring proof of your travel arrangements and request a new appointment.

I know for my AOS second biometrics (mine took a long time to process!) I received the notice the day before we were to fly out for Christmas holidays and it was scheduled for the day before our return - less than 10 days notice. I returned the form requesting a new biometrics appointment and it took another month before I received the new notice - again with less than 10 days notice.

If it were an interview, then yes you would probably have a much more serious problem. For biometrics I think you should be ok. Good luck.

Understandable...but Vanessa has no experience with the question asked so why is she answering it with falsified information. Does it not concern you that the forum is filled with misinformation from people who seem intent inciting hysteria.

To add to this i was asked a few weeks back by visa medical doctor whether i read 'that forum,' becuase she said people using the site always came to their appointments scared out of their wits.

Well in that case, yes i would just walk in and cross all fingers and toes that they didn't already send them notice that you didn't attend.

Being on vacation is NO excuse. It's kinda common knowledge. They clearly state in all information and on all official websites that it is YOUR responsibility to check your mail or have someone check it for you if you need to leave town. They tend to be more forgiving if it was a medical emergency or other such event that was "unexpected".

Thank you for this advice. It's appreciated.
