Makes me wonder perhaps if that had something to do with why the UK went into Iraq, as the Falklands War was instrumental in getting Thatcher re-elected in the early 80s. If that was the case, it backfired spectacularly and the only reason Blair stayed in power is because people still had vivid memories of Tory misrule.

Tony Blair showed that he knew nothing context and the use of military force when he committed the UK to the war in Iraq. Thatcher basically had to commit to retaking the Falklands no matter what international community thought (and even the US changes its vote to abstain in the UN Security Council), or risk losing every shred of credibility the UK had.

Tony thought that standing by the US would give him credibility and gravitas in the international community. He failed to take into account that the Cold War mentality that went with using military force had disappeared with the fall of the Berlin Wall.
