Obama's Nod to Offshore Drilling Alarms Environmental Groups

President Obama's embrace of traditional energy sources while developing new ones is alarming environmental groups, who fear it could result in a boost in offshore drilling.

"We can't overnight convert to an all-solar or an all-wind economy," Obama has said. "That just can't happen."

But Obama also wants to eliminate more than $36 billion in federal subsidies for the oil and natural gas industry in his budget, and seeks to kill $2.3 billion in coal tax breaks, raising the ire of coal-state Democrats.

"He says 'I'm for clean coal,' and then he says it in his speeches, but he doesn't say it in here," said Sen. Jay Rockefeller of West Virginia. "And he doesn't say it in the minds of my own people. And he's beginning to not be believable to me."

Triangulation is the name given to the act of a political candidate presenting his or her ideology as being "above" and "between" the "left" and "right" sides (or "wings") of a traditional (e.g. UK or US) democratic "political spectrum". It involves adopting for oneself some of the ideas of one's political opponent (or apparent opponent). The logic behind it is that it both takes credit for the opponent's ideas, and insulates the triangulator from attacks on that particular issue. I am sure Obama does not want Clinton to be his advisor as that would have made him look like a stooge. He should look at Clintons advisor though and employ him as soon as possible.

That would be ####### Morris, and he currently plays for the other team.

Morris became an adviser to the Bill Clinton administration after Clinton was elected president in 1992. Morris encouraged Clinton to pursue third way policies of triangulation that combined traditional Republican and Democratic proposals, rhetoric, and issues to achieve maximum political gain and popularity.
