I remember KD Lang back from her honky tonk country days. She was pure country before.... boring twangy country. :P

She did that classic duet of "Crying" with Roy Orbison in the late '80's though. But I remember a music video from the '80's where she was in a skirt and twirling around while singing twangy country...it was quite disturbing!

But make-funnery aside, she's maintained an incredible voice, and never better than it was last night. I'm so glad she was a part of the ceremony, while Celine Dion, Chantal Kreviazuk, Avril Lavigne and Joni Mitchell were not. Nor Anne Murray from a singing standpoint. Phew.

You might be right. I wasn't sure who sang one of the songs. I initially thought it was Joni, then I reconsidered and thought it was someone else...

Remember that part where the kid was swinging from the ceiling and running in a fake meadow? Was that a Joni Mitchell song playing? I must admit that I'm not really down with Canadian artists...

Ah, thanks MrsCat. Yeah, my initial instinct was that it was Joni, but then I was thinking, "But this singer is a bit too good to be Joni Mitchell..." I'd heard the song before, but never knew definitively who performed it. Shame on me.

You're all probably thinking of K.D. Lang's song Hanky Panky from her 1st album.

I got chills through my entire body when the lights beamed down and there was Rick Hansen wheeling his way in with the torch. :) Perfect. Just perfect. The others who also went in the circle were good, but you couldn't top Rick's surprise entrance.

Watching the fans following Gretzky in downtown Vancouver reminded me of when the Canucks went to the finals in '94. Crowds of happy people all out on the streets.
