What's everyone's thoughts. The today show had various pedictions of "famous" Canadians including Pamels Anderson (that would be too funny) but they did have Michael J Fox and Wayne Gretzky.

My vote is for "The Great One".

I don't think Pamela Anderson could afford the insurance anymore that would be required for getting her plastic body that close to an open flame :whistle:

It'd be cool if it was Gretzky and Michael J Fox :)

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)

I'm pretty sure it's going to be Gretzky. It was sort of leaked here yesterday. He was seen sneaking in and out of a back door during the dress rehearsal of the opening ceremony.

Maybe he won't be lighting the torch...maybe he'll just be a part of the ceremony...but my money is on him. He's probably still Canada's best-known athlete. I was hoping it was going to be Rick Hansen, but he just did a leg (is that a PC term for a paraplegic person?) of the relay on Wednesday, so that pretty much eliminates him as the main torch lighter.

Pardon my typo in the title "torch" lol.

It's okay. If you were one of those people who misspells "border" as "boarder" I'd be concerned. :P

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Oof...I hope not. While I completely respect Terry Fox's legacy, I don't know if his mother should be lighting the torch... Had Terry still been alive and HE was asked to light the torch, I'd be all for it. But he's not...and I don't know if you can consider the parent of an icon an adequate substitute for that icon on the world stage.

Just read this online:

VANOC boss John Furlong stated flat-out during an interview with Global National that hockey legend Wayne Gretzky will not light the Olympic cauldron on Friday at B.C. Place.

Also keep in mind it is not as if the Olympics won't return to Canada again in Gretzky's lifetime. Canada is hosting its third Games of the past 34 years. It is not unreasonable to think that if Toronto ever hosted, Gretzky, as a Southern Ontario native, would be the final torch bearer. This is Vancouver's time, and that means deferring to someone who has B.C. roots.
