Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't the PATRIOT act allow for this type of investigation?

Well, maybe at that point in time we weren't able to track everybody's cellphones via GPS due to technological restrictions on the part of the cell phone carriers, but if you can search someone's cellphone records without a court order (including coordinates from where the call was made), I would think that if this Act didn't allow for live GPS tracking, it certainly paved the way for it. So let's not blame this on Prez. Obama for once  If anything, it was a joint effort which Bush started.

Wow this is what happens when you watch too much NCIS

You can turn off tracking (aka locating.....gps locating etc), it should be in the phones settings.

Cell phone companies have a record of your call, but that is it, they cannot log the location of the call.

If your phone is in use, and tracking is turned on, they can tell the closest tower that your signal is using, but that

is a 25mi (or so) radius - it's not pinpointable.

PS I know - I worked for a cell phone provider.

True love knows no borders.

It's really hard to know, for all the "carping" we heard about the Patriot-act, we got so few details.

Can any one establish, if in fact, that the Patriot act allowed the Gov to track the movements or domestic calls of US citizens without any court order?
