Aussie wanting info on dual citizenship

Hi All,

I got approved my 10 yr greencard last July.. so how soon can i apply for dual citizenship?

Assuming you are still married to your USC, you can apply 3 years minus 90 days after the date on your conditional greencard, so looking at your timeline, this should be either now or soon.

If you read the oath at the end of the N-400 you have to take to become a USC, any notion of "dual citizenship" rapidly disappears. This is the USCIS.

But on the other hand since the Department of State forces you to print your country of your birth on your US passport, your home country forces you to maintain that foreign passport if you want to visit your family, so this gives the notion of "dual citizenship". We are in that situation since Colombia insists my wife maintain a Colombian passport, otherwise her passport would look just like mine.

So is she a USC just like she was born here? Not exactly, even though she took the oath. Its been said many times that our many government agencies do not work together, if they did as another example, 9/11 would have never happened. The place of birth is of a more minor inconvenience, but nevertheless a pain in the butt. Wish these two agencies, the USCIS and DOS would get their act together. So our agencies force you to have "dual citizenship" even though you had to take an oath to completely avoid that.
