hi there,

My husband and I got married here in Tokyo and first got our konin todoke juri shoumeisho and it was just the simple one on paper that cost 350 yen. Then i read somewhere that the embassy needs the bigger one. So we went back to get the bigger one that cost 1500 yen. Then when I was trying to do the translation for it, I realized that both the smaller one and the bigger one do not have serial numbers on the marriage certificates. Am I supposed to get a different one? When we show them our marriage certificate with the translation, is there another one with that has a serial number on it? Do we have to have one with a serial number on it?

argggg....hope i dont run into problems. i have my appointment on tuesday!?!

if I do have to go back to get it, do you know if i can get it in the same day? and just go to the city hall in the morning?

Hi getcr1,

You did not have to get the bigger one.

The embassy accepts the smaller marriage certificate.

That's what we turned in with our I-130.

The format of Japanese marriage certificates is slightly different depending on the ward/city/town,

so what I assume is that marriage certificates from some cities have serial numbers, and others don't.

Ours didn't have one, but it didn't cause any problem at all.
