I never carried originals of the documents from the K1, for fear they would be lost. The information is on it regardless of whether it is a copy or original. I never had issues with this, with 5 visits across the border, and see no reason why it should not suffice for you as well. Only original I ever brought was an employment letter.

As others have stated, the CBP do not need to know the entirety of the US immigration process, nor do they necessarily know what each form name, etc is. The more well-versed you appear to be in your own process, the more likely they are to understand what you're doing and what your intentions are. Don't let this attempt on your part make you fearful to cross the Canadian border, as many will tell you, our spouses/fiances often did so without incident. Just become aware of the what's best to present and inform the patrols with and hopefully you'll have no difficulty in the future.

Aww, I'm glad this story had a happy ending.

I was nearly denied entry into England by the most sour-faced ####### on the planet, after nearly 10 hours on a plane. I was sweet as pie, showed my return ticket, no attitude, played the game. It took a phone call to John (who sat waiting on the other side) to corroborate our stories in order for her to let me in. I had never been so humiliated - I was the first one in line only to be the last one to leave.

WHY on earth would we want to sneak into our Beneficiary's country if they're coming HERE?!!! After all the money spent and etc.?!!

Having to explain K-1 to the customs shrew made me wonder (in all seriousness) just how safe we all really are that the people working the borders are SO daft about K-1!! I wondered this again at POE (at LAX here in SoCal) when they didn't know what to do with our envelope.
