Good luck!

Oh, that makes it easier then. We could have taken Windsor, but my husband said to take Sarnia for variety.

Anyway, just so you know ahead of time, you're going to have to take the driver's exam again...Indiana laws. I'm trying to study for my driver's test now. I just hope that I get to keep my Canadian license.

Yeah, we got married in Indiana (Marion County). We had a civil marriage in order to get the AOS started and then we'll have a church ceremony sometime in the summer. Indiana is pretty fast with marriage licenses and certificates (get it the same day you apply), so you should have no problem when you reach the AOS stage :)

That's great. Well, he has to come to Canada and get married. I think it will work best for us that way.

He comes to Canada, we get married, he returns back to Indiana and applies for the CR1, while I stay in Canada and wait until I can cross into the USA with my visa.

I can't get married in the USA and stay and adjust status. I've had problems at the border last year. I was crossing with some personal things..a lot actually as I was moving and he suggested I just leave them at his place in Indiana because I was there quite often anyways. Well I got yanked into customs, interrogated, fingerprinted and denied entry. They accused me of wanting to immigrate which was NEVER my intention..try to prove that to them. Every time I crossed, I had to provide tons of ties to Canada, this happened about 10x's, then it fell off my record and I have been travelling hassle free since last July..thank GOD!

So we don't want to take the slightest chance of ever having problems, we want to do everything by the letter and all though it will be a few months wait, it will be for the best I think.

Wow, what a story....yeah, sounds like CR1 might be the best. We just decided on K1 because we didn't want to wait apart and K1 has the tendency to be faster than CR1.

Of course, I'm paying the price for it as I can't work now until I get my EAD or Greencard.

At least once the process is over for you, you're considered a PR when you cross the border :)

tri_gear, why don't you just apply for a K-1? That's what you have listed in your profile as well. You'll need to change that if you go for a CR-1.

Tina, I'm in St. Louis, but drive to Toronto once a year to visit my folks. On the way back, I (or we) usually stop in Indianapolis. Maybe we can hook up on one of our trips later this year and have a coffee or supper!

Okay, I now am engaged..yay! We will still plan on getting married in Canada. He will go back and file the CR1. We have not filed that yet of course. It's in my profile, but I know we'll be doing that soon..anywho.. Hopefully they will still let me cross at the border. I have a huge binder with all of my ties to Canada. So I guess we'll cross that bridge when it happens.

So we have to get a marriage license. He was divorced 10 years ago and does not have an "original" certificate. I'm wondering if anyone knows how that works in Canada. Does he need to get an "original" divorce decree somehow? Then we file for the marriage license? Or can Ontario work with a "copy" of the decree?

Thanks...Go CANADA..
