I have interview at London Embassy 5th March.

This appointment came through only days after NVC received my DS 230. It took me completely by surprise. What I need help with if anybody can supply an answer.

I had already booked a flight for 18th March to visit my wife in US. Planned to stay two weeks then return.

If I am successful on 5th, can I still make this trip? As I am not in a position to move out there permanently yet. I need to get a lot of things finalised this side of the pond.

Also I believe that your passport has to remain at embassy for insertion of visa. What happens if you need it straight away? As I will do as I do not live on mainland Britain and need passport to travel back home after interview.

Will be grateful for any assistance on these two points.

Thanks

Peter

sure... you could actually return the next day because they put a temporary "greencard' stamp in your passport

YMMV

Can you call the embassy for your situation?

or ask the uk forum?

do you have other papers allowing you to travel back to your home?

in France they keep passport and ship it with a fedex enveloppe

maybe embassy can keep and you come and collect

maybe you can get it shipped

imagine it could be 2-5 days if no issue

I don t know specifically UK

about getting into US

you need your passport back

French and others can use visa waiver prooving strong ties

whether they have your immigrant visa or not

is UK included in Visa Waiver Program, isn't

personnally I did go under VWF while having visa

did not want US residency in 2009

With Green card US residency (and taxes liability) starts first of Jan (I think) regardless of the date you get in the US

I am careful about saying things I don t know because rules change

from coountry to country or case to case or with time
