Hi Everyone,

You have officically got me in a panic!! I had my interview last August and had my xrays with me. The officer told me to do whatever I wanted with them and said that I wouldn't need them ever again....I even asked if I could throw them out and he said yes! I do not have my xray anymore!! When I get my Visa...should I go back to Toronto and get another xray....explaining to them why I need it?? OMG....I can't believe that I would throw those out....even on the advice of a Gov't official!!! Help me!

You have zero reason to worry brock - this is a non-issue. I have never heard of anyone else being asked for it (besides bowflex) - so it was probably just 1 officer who did not understand.

Even if they did ask you, you could just explain that the CO told you that you could get rid of it - I am sure they would be fine with that.

When I did my interview back in October for my IR-1 the interviewer was very, very, very clear that I was NOT to cross back into Canada until I had my green card. I actually challenged him on that (very nicely, of course), but he was insistent that no green card = no leaving the US. Unless I got AP.

He was wrong. I called the POE (Peace Bridge) to double check his information and they said categorically that providing I had my passport with the I-551 stamp in it I was good for up to a year.

I crossed several times between POE and getting my green card. No worries. Had to explain what I had in my passport one time to the BG at the booth, but no trouble at all.

Thank you sooooo much for posting this! The consular officer told me the same thing in respect of my CR1 (that once I entered I was not to leave the US until I received my green card in the mail or got AP). I even pressed them on it and they still insisted! I'm going to call the Peace Bridge to triple check (in case they've changed it recently).

Hi everyone,

What do you think about passing over and back a couple of times via air? My husband will probably have to travel down for job interviews and for us to look at houses to buy, but he will not be joining me until the end of the school year in early July. Are the airport customs officers difficult with the POE/passport stamp?

Thanks,

Edmontongirl

If your husband has the I-551 stamp in his passport that is the same as a green card. He should have no problems at all crossing the border back and forth between Canada and the US as the I-551 stamp in a passport is valid proof of his legally recognized right from USCIS to live and work in the US and to travel away and back to the US on a short term basis.

As long as you, personally, have already moved first or with him, it shouldn't be a problem.
