So I have all the documents for my wife's immigrant visa (CR-1) ready to mail out. So I read form DS-2001 and it says "Please obtain the original documents or certified copies listed in Instructions for Immigrant or K Visa Applicants."

On the List of Documents, in the same packet, it says "Only photocopies of documents below must be returned to the IV Unit. The original documents must be presented at interview." So now I am confused. I already made photocopies of all the required documents. Do I have to have these photocopies certified, or can I mail the original???????

I'm confused, we went through the process a year ago and never submitted the DS-2001 (I don't even know what that form is). For the I-130 simple photo copies are sufficient, keep the originals for NVC and the interview

Good luck.

I have already submitted the I-130 form to the DHS in Bangkok. Now I have to submit form I-864, DS-230, police check and scanned copies of all legal documents (passport, marriage certificate, birth certificates, etc).

We live in south Thailand so I have to mail everything to the US Embassy in Bangkok and then wait for the OK for the interview. What I am wondering is if I have to submit the originals along with the immigration visa packet or can just send the photocopies (not certified)????? I know that when my wife is called in for the interview she must bring the originals. But do I have to mail originals, certified copies or just plain photocopies?????

moving from CR-1 to DCF (again). Yours more applicable to the Direct Consular Filing forum. In the future, post in the DCF forum.

Also, please change your profile from K-3 to DCF

When we filed through Sydney back in 2007 I remember they asked us to send the originals and photocopies of each. It didn't need to be certified because they could verify themselves they were the same before returning the originals to us at the interview.

hope this helps but if you're still in doubt, email them and ask

Thanks RSN, profile change! While your at it, can you answer my question?

Can't say for sure what the specific requirements are for the BKK embassy as far as DCFs are concerned. Email them to find out.

To the OP...

Just like it says. You can submit photocopies of the documents throughout the process, but bring the originals (or certified copies) to the interview. If they're in Thai or English, they don't need to be translated.

For others...

DS-2001 is a form submitted to the USEM in BKK stating that you have all of the documents required and are ready for an interview. It's just one more signature by the non-USC. No biggie.
