Eye roll back at you mate, the article clearly states she was bashed for 'having nice things' and 'acting too white'. It's mind boggling that you refuse to accept the reality that this is one of the reason why those in Ghettos in America do not progress and remain the bottom of the barrel; the scum of the earth; the cesspool of humanity. Whenever someone in their community tries to succeed, they are just 'acting too white'. It's not the first time I have heard of this, and sure as hell is a better explanation for a group of folks lack of advancement in forty years, instead of 'they are just victims of racism' idiotic rhetoric.

It's hard to say if this girl was actually "bashed for 'acting too white,'" but this attitude, that if you are polite, studious, serious, etc., that you are being an "uncle tom" or "trying to act white" was one of the things that shocked and disappointed me when I first began teaching a couple of decades ago. It exists and it is damaging. It is an attitude of failure and a method to make sure that everyone fails equally. It is very unfortunate and it can only be addressed from inside the culture.

It doesn't take a genius to realize that something outside socioeconomics is at play here. Attitude and culture is exactly what is holding back those in ghettos. What kills me is that others here will deny this (Pike) and say nope it cannot be that, it must be that people are still racist because they are black and from the ghetto; which is simply baseless and not true.

I am appalled, as always, at not only the "guards" standing around, but no bystanders helping out. It's a sad fact of today's society that no-one helps for fear of being bashed themselves.

I guess this incident just brings the tally to 24 reported here on VJ. Which once again you play down, deny, justify, excuse etc etc etc. There is no argument period. The guards are not the perpetrators of this callous Neanderthal behavior. Why should they jump in? Especially when they are very likely to be accused by Jesse Jackson and co of beating on the black girl.
