So it has been 1 month today since I went to my interview. I haven't heard any news yet. I was wondering how long should one wait before contacting USCIS or my local senator? Should I give them 90-120 days? The IO said I should hear something in 3 to 4 weeks.

Any thoughts?

Hello, Well if i am in ur shoes. Yes i will make an infopass. u will lose nothing. if u were told that u will hear something about ur case within 3 to 4 weeks that means u passed that time so Yes go for it and make an Infopass first, nothing happen? contact ur senator.

did the interviewing officer tell you why they can't still decide on your case? I passed my test but they told me they can't still decide on my case not until i submit a police clearance because my fingerprints are unreadable.

Ya it was due to my arrest records. I have no convictions but it has to be seen by a supervisor first.

From reading experiences on this board, instructed my wife to get a commitment, first she asked about the same day oath ceremony, no way, then a commitment from her IO as to when she could expect her oath letter, she said within two weeks.

She also told my wife that her application had to be sent off to someplace where she didn't know. I learned later, this is not true, the final approval is done at the field office, but whether it is done by a supervisor or the office manager, that I don't know.

With that commitment of two weeks, let four weeks go by and contacted my senators office, being nice and mentioned the two week commitment by already four weeks went by. Unexpectedly, received an e-mail with her oath letter attached and a letter of apology, by the office manager. Her oath ceremony was three days later. Technically, you have to wait 120 days if you did not get a commitment. I did make efforts to contact my wife's IO, couldn't make out her name to save my soul, but was impossible to contact her. Did say, if you have any questions to contact your IO. Calling that 800 number is fruitless.

Maybe I can contact my local senator and see if there is anything they can do. I will let a little time go by since the he did say 3-4 weeks and well 30 days was just yesterday. So I will give it a little time. Your wife was lucky to have an interview so quickly. I live in a smaller area and from what I could find out it looks like there is an oath ceremony on 3/12/2010 and one on 4/6/2010. So I guess we shall see.

Believe you meant to say her oath ceremony so quickly after I contacted my senator, but helps since he is on the finance committee for the USCIS and they have to report to him for their budgets and other complaints. Did also learn besides your field office determines whether you will get your USC or not, and approved at your field office, they also can generate your certificate as well. Some members on this board received their certificate the same day, normally do their interview in the morning, take a lunch break and get their certificate in the afternoon. The rest of us have to wait, learned this is entirely at the discretion of the field office manager. Most people in St. Paul have to wait six months to a year, like to make a big party out of it, but the others really don't care if you get your certificate or not, just getting theirs and all you care about is getting yours.

My wife's friend, also from Venezuela, delayed by lack of a utility bill, did not want to take the expense of taking the USCIS to court, her Senator was Obama and no where around nor his staff to be found. I composed letters for her to Obama, hers went unanswered. But suddenly after waiting 15 months after her interview, she finally got her oath letter. Like us, calling the USCIS was worthless and so is Ombudsman.

We still have a mess to deal with, having to maintain passports for both Venezuela and Colombia, trying to get my wife's unmarried son out of Venezuela and liquidating her property, she has to definitely maintain her Venezuelan passport and ID for that and Chavez certainly isn't any help and the rest of her family is in Colombia. She petitioned for her son soon after she received USC, 18 months is nothing with that kind of a petition and many concerns that Chavez will confiscate her property. We can only take one day at a time. If we can get free from Venezuela, just dealing with Colombia won't be so bad.
