Previous Voluntary Departure effect on N400

My N400 application was received on Feb 4th, 2010. Ten years ago, I was granted voluntary departure for overstay on non-immigrant visa. I complied and left the country. I married my USC husband after my voluntary departure, we are married for 10 years next month and have 3 kids. I got my GC under the LIFE Act provision on March 2007. Will my voluntary departure affect the "Good Moral Character" determination on N400 application? Can I be possibly denied N400 due to voluntary departure? I disclosed the VD on the N400.

I am not sure about this particular situation, but I know that they are concerned with the past 3 or 5 years based on the type of N-400 information you provided.

Meaning, if you are applying for citizenship based on a marriage which means you have been a LPR for 3 years, then from what I know, they will deny your request only if you have any bad marks on your record during the past three years. The same goes for 5 years.

They might bring it up and ask you about it, so be prepared to provide honest and simple answers.

When I was 17, I watched a dirty movie. Will that have an effect on my citizenship application on regard to my moral character?

Ejb, that you even ask this question is ridiculous. When you are ready to become a citizen, all that counts is that you didn't do anything bad in the years since you became a LPR. You should not waste another thought on this.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.
