Interview passed! but co-sponsor needed to grant visa

I would just like to say that Precious (my fiancee) had her interview on February 10th at the US embassy in Manila. The consulate said everything went well, but that we just needed a co-sponsor for him to approve her K1 visa. She was instructed by both the consulate and the clerk to return anytime Mon-Thurs before 1pm with the co sponsors affidavit of support (BOTH the I-134 and I-864). They said they would then review the documents then have her pay the fee to ship her passport back to her! So everything worked out for the most part! they held on to her passport and are just waiting for her to return with our cosponsor's (my best friend's) documents. I suppose this answers a few people's questions about whether or not the USEM accepts co-sponsors. My final answer would be that they do but on a case to case basis. There have been many people who have been denied and told that the embassy would not accept a co-sponsor for their k1 visas. However, in our case, the consulate decided that he would let my best friend co-sponsor! So we're very thankful we were on positive side of the debate on whether or not the USEM accept co-sponsors.

My only question would be, for anyone who knows, on the I-864, the sponsor and co-sponsor have to submit proof of US citizenship (US passport, US birthcertificate). I, the sponsor, have all my documents. However my friend has no idea where his birth certificate is and his passport is expired. Will a copy of the expired passport suffice as proof that he is indeed a US citizen. He has no other documents to prove his citizenship =/ The fact that he was granted a passport in the past should be enough proof that he is a citizen if im not mistaken. any responses would be very helpful!

Thanks and God bless all who are on your visa journey! (we're almost done with the hardest part!)

there is no law that says a co-sponsor is not allowed for K1 petitions...so it really does depend on the CO sometimes?

your case is a real example that co-sponsors are indeed allowed for K1 petitions. :)

i hope your CO didn't just happen to be very nice, hehe

anyway, your co-sponsor can get a copy of his birth cert very easily, i'm not sure about an expired passport though

congrats and god bless!
