HI All,

I had my interview in Buffalo NY on Jan 12th 2009 at 9:45 am and this is what happened there

I arrived at the security counter where the security guard asked me to empty my pant and shirt pockets and place everything in a plastic box to go inside in xray machine, he also asked to place my jacket in the box and asked me to walk across the metal detector, thats when the security man sitting in front on the monitor for the xray machine commented "YOU HAVE A LOT OF THINGS IN YOUR POCKETS" i checked my pockets again n there is nothing in there, NOTE there is one more guy who used the metal detector on me and he didnt find anything so i was quiet surprised. Then this guy says"I AM TALKING ABOUT YOUR JACKET POCKETS" again i was a little surprised my jacket is inside the xray machine and it just had some papers in it nothing else, so i smile n say" ok i can take them out" n he gets wild n says"THIS IS NOT FUNNY THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU WERE TOLD, U WERE ASKED TO EMPTY YOUR POCKETS" thats when i was really pissed off i said "i was asked to empty my shirt and pant pockets which i did and placed the jacket in the xray machine" at that point he didnt say anything and kept murmuring something to his fellow worker, he behaved in a way that i was carrying a bomb in my pocket and i felt he had a RACIAL tone i am not sure if he was indeed racist and just that his wife punched him that morning but i really wanted to punch his face off, i picked my stuff and walked off, i was really angry coz the xray machines can virtually see even a small pin and this is how i have placed my jacket and other things at airport security or any other place without any problems and i still cant believe they hire these type of people at USCIS.....

Anyways back to my interview i waited in the upper hall for about 20 mins after which i was called in. A gentleman then asked me to follow him to his cabin. He was very courteous and went over my paperwork he made some corrections in dates which i had written wrong and then asked me to read

WHOS LIVES IN THE WHITE HOUSE? and then asked me to write

THE PRESIDENT LIVES IN THE WHITE HOUSE

he then asked me 6 questions for the history and civic test and told me i had passed my interview and the test.

but because i had an OHIO LICENSE he gave me a form and asked me to send documents for evidence that i lived in NY state for atleast 90 days before applying and also my present residence

i have sent all the documents and now i am waiting for their reply and will post as soon as i get some info

thanks

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I guess the moral of your story is to go to the interview with as little stuff as possible to pass the security guards easily... of course, taking all the evidence is already annoying.

Thanks again

Hi Rohitsakp,

Thanks for posting your Buffalo, NY N-400 interview experience! Very helpful, indeed! And congrats for passing the intervew.. :star::thumbs:

Sorry that you had a hard time at the security counter...I agree, it makes no sense why they give people such a hard time there...

Lol..Don't let those guards intimidate you! And yes, be sure to empty your pockets (all your pockets) the next time you go there...Those machines are extra sensitive....Heck, even my husband's belt buckle set the thing off! I still don't understand why they have such machines there.....

Lol..I remember the last time I went there...With the baby, car seat, baby bag.....and yeah, they gave me a hard time about that too...Oh well...Had no other choice...Heck, they even "wanded" the baby too...Lol...Maybe they thought the baby was carrying a bomb? Gee, how paranoid can they be...

What a co-incidence..They asked me similar White House questions for the interview too.....

(Where is the White House...The White House is in Washington, DC...)

Guess they have some fascination with the White House there...lol...

What other civics/history quetions did they ask you?

That's good that you sent in the residency documents and hope you here back from them regarding that..

What extra documents did you have to send in?

By the way...by NYS DMV rules..You're supposed to exchange your license over once you've been a NYS resident for a certain period of time..

It's not that hard for you to get an NYS license and/or ID card....

10 mins..In and out...Just exchange your Ohio one for an NYS one.....

That proves residency in NYS too....

Good luck with getting an oath date soon....(and yes, do post about that oath ceremony experience here on vj too...)
