My fiance is ready to move to Seattle and i have quickly realized buying a ticket through EVA Airways is tricky becuase they require the actual credit card when she picks up the ticket makes it impossible. Is it easier for her to buy a ticket in Bangkok herself? I can't be the only one who has dealt with this. I want to use my credit card. It is just easier this way. Could someone please help me?

Thank you

You'll most likely find that a round-trip ticket is less expensive than a one way. Purchase whatever is less (if you end up buying the round trip, just forefit the return portion).

Try:

P.S. I've used my credit card for other passengers flying unaccompanied and have never had a problem with either of the 2 websites I listed.

First, what type of Visa does she have? Did she get her K-1 Visa?

EVA Air has a few offices in BKK and of course she can go to Suwannapoom Airport and buy the ticket. You can send her the money and she can pay cash for the ticket. You can also call EVA Air in the US and ask them if you can book the ticket with them on the phone so the requirement to show the purchaser's card is not necessary. Otherwise, you need to go to a travel agent to purchase the ticket which isn't necessarily the cheapest route anymore.

Other airlines are China Air also through Taipei and Cathay Pacific through Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific is usually more expensive. China Airlines and Eva are ususally comparable.

It is the K-1 Visa. I just want to buy the ticket. It was the lady at the EVA Air office in Seattle that stated she would have to provide the credit card upon picking up her ticket in Bangkok. I really can't believe I cant just buy the ticket for her. It is funny you said that travel agencies are expensive because the one I called here was quoting some pretty ridiculous prices and stating the airline would come after me if i bought a round trip ticket and only used one portion of it.

Apparently most airlines will let you get away with it once or twice before they get really persnickety about the "using one part of a round trip" thing. If you make a regular habit of it, it bugs them, but there should be no real problems only doing once. So I've heard anyways.

I would encourage you to call the main office in Los Angeles or keep going back to get a Supervisor at your local office or even go to SeaTac airport. If you buy the ticket with your credit card from an Authorized EVA ticket agent in person, your fiancee should not have to show a credit card.

I did this with my fiancee on Thai Airlines when I was in BKK. I purchased her ticket to BKK and since it was me in person buying from Thai Air, they did not require Audy to show the Credit Card. If I had bought the tickets on Thai's web-site, my fiancee would have needed to show the credit card.

Use a travel agent in BKK. They will let you use your card for her ticket, and the prices are usually cheaper through them than online. It's not the same over there as it is in the US. Try these guys they will let you pay online:

I actually checked out a handfull of TAs in Bangkok last time I was there and the online rates blew them away. If you do a good search of all airlines online, you'll come up with something reasonable. Also, round-trip tickets are NOT cheaper than one-way, at least in this case. I've been to Thailand 7 times myself, and each time I do an exhaustive search to find the cheapest absolute ticket prices. I've found that 8 times out of 10, ANA is the cheapest when Thailand is involved. In one case, it was cheaper to fly Korean Air one-way from BKK to the U.S., and NWA won a couple times, but NWA kinda sucks.

If you have concerns about purchasing the ticket - call the airline first.

I agree that round trip and one way are usually about the same price for international travel. I do believe it is possible to get it a little cheaper if you book a ticket in BKK itself as opposed to

buying from the states. But either way it's not going to be cheap.

If you're comparing travel agent prices in the states vs travel agent prices in Thailand, then yes, it will be cheaper in Thailand. Your absolute lowest-cost ticket will be one purchased from the internet. Depending on the time of year, ticket prices for me have ranged from $900 - $1700. The one one-way I bought in June from BKK - ORD was for about $1000 purchased about 24 hours before the flight on Korean Air's website. If you do your homework and do a thorough search, you will likely come up with the best price available online. There really aren't any consistent rules for purchasing airline tickets, even though everyone seems to think there are. For example, purchasing a ticket far in advance is not necessarily cheaper than purchasing one 24 hours before your flight. Also, some airlines sites offer lower prices than the online brokers, and some don't - again you have to do a thorough search to come up with something reasonable.
