SSN arrival after POE inquiry

Anyone have any stories of how long they waited for their SSN to arrive after they had made the POE, maybe even their Green card story as well? It would greatly be appreciated =)

I applied for my SSN at the local Social Security office 3 weeks after my POE (even though I had checked off the appropriate box on the DS-230); card arrived 6 days later.

Green card arrived a month after my POE. When you receive your welcome letter (which I received about 2 weeks after my POE) you can use the receipt number provided to track your green card production on the USCIS site.

I hear you there! I'm already applying for jobs in the U.S., which makes me feel a TAD squeamish, since I don't have 100% assurance that I'll be down in a month (I know my interview should be a lock, but one never knows until it's over...), and I have no ETA on my SSN. It would be nice if the checkbox on the DS-230 really worked. It looks pretty 50/50 from what I've read...

You could start a poll to see how the numbers add up..had to apply / didn't have to apply / when SSN arrived etc. I don't know how to create a poll but it's fun to answer them.

I thought that stamp in your passport worked as a temp Green Card until the REAL one arrived??????? Can anyone clarrify???

Yes it does. I crossed twice using my stamped passport and had no issues.

Stamp in G'card works as ur "greencard"

If u checked off the box on the DS-230--theoretically it should arrive 10 - 14 BUSINESS days after your POE!! if it has NOT, then head down to ur local SSN office, with ur CDn passport (with visa) and make an inquiry. Be proactive and download (and fill out)the form from http://www.socialsecurity.gov/online/ss-5.html

Not sure on the actual time frame on getting the actual greencard! Was a month back in 2004,lol Normally you get a "welcome to the USA" letter first (quite often 2 or 3 of them) then a few days later the actual card!

Correct. The stamp in your passport is your temp Green Card and its good for a year. However, you can't work in the states until you have a Social Security number as your employer needs that number for tax purposes.

U can work in the USA without a SSN--u just prob wont get paid until u provide them the SSN!

Yea, Im not too concerned about the Green card as much as the SSN. SSN = Money, Im a freelancer so I need it to get going, mind you I still can accept payments through Paypal and Direct banking transfers but I still want it for maybe a Part time side job if I need one. But I will wait patiently for my GC.

Got my SSN today! POE was in Blaine Washington, Pacific Highway crossing on Feb 7th and received it today Feb 22, about 12 days(minus holiday and sundays) after my POE. Just have to wait for My green card now.

The quickest way is to go to the SS office after about 2 weeks and get your #... Employers usually will not hire you until you show the SS#... The GC generally comes in about 6-8 weeks...

My wife just received her SS card,

Arrived Jan. 29th

SS card arrived on Feb 6th

That was fast, now the Green card
