I arrived at the office at 8:30am for my 9am interview. Was told to go upstairs, drop off my letter and wait. The waiting area was pretty empty - there were maybe 5 other people waiting. Waited and waited and at 9:40am my name was called. A very quiet and kind officer brought me to his office, had me swear to tell the truth and we got down to business.

First thing he asked me was for my Green Card and if I had any extra "marital evidence" to add to my folder. I handed him by tax returns for the last 3 years and a copy of our bank statements and lease. Then it was time to get down to business. He told me he would ask me a question and if I couldn't understand him he would repeat himself and I shouldn't be afraid to ask. First thing was to read "who elects Congress" and I had to write "the people elect congress". Then it was time for the questions:

1. Who wrote the declaration of independence?

2. Name one state that borders Mexico.

3. Which political party does the president belong to?

4. Name 3 of the first 13 colonies.

5. What are the 2 political parties in the United States?

6. How many US Senators are there?

He said I passed and would have to now wait for my invitation to the oath ceremony. He said it is done a first come first serve basis - I know there is one next week in Milwaukee and asked about getting in on that one, he said he wasn't sure and I would just have to wait for the letter.

Left with a letter saying congrats and a big smile on my face. Hopefully I won't have to wait to long for the oath ceremony!

Way to go fellow CITIZEN!!

One of my questions was "Who said give me liberty, or give me death?"

Hey do they still give you a chance to change your name on the spot?

I remember in where I went in Sacramento there were 30 to 40 people all participating in the oath ceremony the all at the same time! So cooool!

It was in that same Milwaukee office where my friend had to bring in proof of extra cost to add his wife's name to the deed, wonder what happened to that IO?

We had to go to Milwaukee three times just for biometrics, was always empty, and maybe that was the reason they sent us there. At our oath ceremony in St. Paul some people came as far away as Fond du Lac, stayed in a motel, but only a little over an hour from Milwaukee. Wife had to work until 2:00 AM, came home and changed and I drove her to St. Paul, a long ride just to get that certificate. Envy the field offices that do the oath ceremony the same day, but understand, this is done at the discretion of the office manager. Not very convenient.

Wife did read the oath out loud at the end of her interview and signed it with her IO as the witness, oath ceremony was just lip service. I did carefully read her certificate, she was too excited checking for errors, but she didn't sign it until we got home. Even made her practice writing her full name so no question about validity. She has her own unique very artistic signature, but you would think she should have signed that in front of an official. Maybe it's best not to think, just do.
