I'm a US Citizen (23) and just married my UK boyfriend of 1 year. We wouldn't have married already (maybe waited another year) but his status was expiring and so we decided to do things faster.

The big, big problem: My parents have no knowledge of this (not even that we were dating) because they are extremely religious and don't even allow me to date or talk to men. I've had boyfriends before, but always in secret. I'm old enough to make my own decisions, but I don't want them to think less of me. Now I don't think they will find out, but I wonder if it's going to be bad at our immigration interview if we say that my parents have no knowledge of our marriage? I've read through some horror stories here, and I certainly don't want immigration officers calling my parents to verify my marriage. I'm not living at home because I'm studying in another city (which I wrote as my address on the forms) so I don't worry about immigration letters or anything coming their way.

Any advice? Will our marriage be looked at as suspicious because my parents don't know? Should we lie and say they know about it?

Honestly, the question probably won't come up at the interview, especially if you had a spur-of-the-moment wedding with only a few people present. If they do ask, don't lie, because if they find out you/ he lied about your parents knowing, not only will it look extra suspicious, but you could be slapped with a charge of "miss-representation" ie fraud, which could cause a lifetime ban. So if they ask what your parents think of the relationship, be honest and explain why you didn't tell them.

What is important is that you show lots of evidence of your relationship, how long you have been dating, things you did together etc. One question that will likely come up: you mention that his status was almost up. Does that mean he is in the USA right now? If so, it will be questioned if a married couple does not live together.

when my husband had his AOS interview, the lady asked him and i why my father did not go to my wedding, but that my mother did, and i said that he was working which was true, she was like he cant take off? pretty much she drilled us about why he couldnt get off and come to my wedding, long story short, she was a B***H about it, and during the whole interview pretty much, but we got approved. The thing is, eventually you have to come clean about your marriage to your parents eventually. Misewell do it now. So they dont approve, and they are extremely religious, you are obviously old enuf to get married, which means that you are atleast 18 b/c you do not need consent, which means you are an adult, and can make your own decisions. What are you going to do after you and your husband get pregnant? hide that child and your whole relationship too? the way i see it, hiding a flea turned into hiding a horse turned into a hiding an elephant, it only got bigger and harder, and will only continue to do so. SO your parents dont approve.... so what? sounds like you are independent, they will eventually come around,,, if they dont, live your happy life with your new husband and be happy. He is your number one priority now. good luck.
