I submitted my N-400 today and was reading another post that stated they checked her passport during the interview. My foreign passport expired last month. Do I need to renew my foreign passport prior to the interveiw? Help please.

No. They are ok with expired passports. If you have done any travel, make sure you can show them the entry/exit stamps if they ask for them as proof of being in the states the entire time you claim.

A co-worker of mine had that problem where his wife was asked to show her trip to Mexico and she forgot to bring that document that showed it.....

As v333k noted, they are mainly interested in your passport as a verification of any foreign travel you have or have not done.
