I don't know, am I? I thought it was pretty interesting that's all, I've never heard people speak so lowly of their own people before...

Do you ever wonder why certain parts of the world, whitening cream is a hot item?

Shani, you have read that right. I met a girl from Bohol when I was in Manila for the CFO a day after the interview. She had the same thought as the post that you quoted. A lot of women from the Philippines no matter how unattractive they are still have beautiful kids from a foreign man (at least that's usually the case). In fact, some celebrities and models in the Philippines are half-Filipino and half-American. They are considered as hot items.

Anyway, my husband was born in India and his family moved to the U.S. when he was three years young. I am very confident that we will have intelligent and gorgeous children, in God's favor.

Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls has Filipino blood.

Haha. At least I made an impression ;)

I was deeply insulted by the comment about why the poster married a white guy. It's demeaning as a woman, more so, as someone who is from my own country. Don't get me wrong. I'm not against marrying outside ones race. But I feel "improvement of genes" is a lame, if not downright absurd reason to marry outside your race. Aren't you happy with your own? Besides, race does not dictate the quality of one's genetic make up? Was she trying to say Filipinos are genetically ugly?

My belief is, people can be beautiful, regardless of race. I will be the first to say this, in a way, I understand the poster who said that because the media in the Philippines has such a limited, cookie cutter definition of beauty and I think it's sad and in that regard, the mainstream media in the Philippines just has to grow up. Then again, you can't define yourself with what media has spoon fed to you can you?

I agree with the gist of what you are saying, however, if you are Pinay, then you'd be well aware of some of the lingering attitudes that perpetuated from outsiders such as the Spanish. The house helpers tend to be the darker complected and if you look more Spanish, you are considered more beautiful. It is shame that such attitudes persist today, but it's not surprising.

People should just be careful with taking posts from other threads to say "what on earth?" about unless they are willing to go under the same scrutiny about their own ridiculous sounding posts sometimes.

RIP the N00bz. VJ went way downhill since its demise. (F)

hehe, I disagree. Whether VJ has gone way downhill since it's demise or not has nothing to do with it being closed. I am sure my reasons for why VJ may be going downhill is different than yours, and yours would be different than mine. To me, a thread about making fun of noobz is not cool, especially if they didn't know they were the topic of the jokes. That makes me sound serious, but I actually enjoy laughing a whole lot. After being here many years, I would not say that thread being closed made VJ worse. It may have made it better.

You obviously never got the vibe of what made the n00bz what it was. It wasn't ever really about n00bz at all. The closest thing to n00bz on today's VJ is the chopfuck thread. It has a similar sense of humor. imho, of course.

your own country? i've spent just a little time there (I guess compared to you), and it doesn't take long to know about the whole skin whitening thing, the whole mix with white person thing so i'm really surprised you are sounding the alarm. maybe you took "genes" too literally.

it seems, in order to be a model or a star in the RP, you need to lighten up your skin. i rarely saw any dark newscasters, models or TV personalities.

it is okay to be a dark politician b/c usually they are part of the ruling clan so they are in from birth.

True I did not follow it along it's many pages. I read here and there near the beginning I guess, but was enough to turn me off. :P Whatever it became, I don't know. But then it's good it didn't continue under the same title.

I am well aware, thank you very much. I'm not surprised either. I know our history and our culture. I know how it's hard define our cultural identity because we've been colonized by countries in the past. But c'mon, it's 2010 and yeah, we're all in the United States already, so, such ignorant remarks should be addressed and pointed out.

I find it embarrassing to read comments like that from people. I don't want people generalizing that we all think we're ugly. I don't want people to think that we all worship the grounds foreigners walk on and think lowly of ourselves because not all of us have insecurity issues or have that medieval belief.

Someone pointed out that it's sad that there are people who think so lowly of their own. I agree with that person 100%.

I can't just sit here and read on the misrepresentations some people are making regarding Filipinos. I just can't.
