Well things may already have been messed up. I got a call from my fiance this morning and he told me they sent him a letter for a K3 visa not a K1 visa. Unless this is a standard letter they send for all K visas regardless if it is 1 or 3 something might be wrong. And there are a few differences posted on their web-site for documentation between both of them. I have sent an e-mail tonight asking for clarification and requesting the correct information be sent to him.

Has this happened to anyone else with a K1 Fiance visa - especially anyone going through Mumbai?

Thanks!

Ugh!!! Murphy's law strikes again. Email the consulate was the right thing -- K1 is handled differently than K3 (yes, you are right -- there are differences).

Man these consulate guys :wacko::wacko:

Good luck -- it will be sorted out soon...

Yes, they e-mailed me back, apologized and stated they had sent the correct forms to him that day. He also e-mailed them and I believe was told the same information. I am hoping he receives them before this weekend. I know he could go to their web-site, download and print them, but unfortunately he does not have a printer at his home. So we are just waiting. We figured we have waited this long, what is a couple of more days?

We had to cancel the interview date for my fiance that was on September 20th.

I had a very bad car accident just after Labor Day. Dealing with that, a few injuries, and not having a way to get to and from work has really interfered with me getting paperwork done. I just mailed off a HUGE packet to him today via FedEx so he should get it Friday. Once he confirms receiving the papers I will reschedule an interview in New Delhi. If all goes well we will still be on track for him arriving in late November, wouldn't you think?

Good luck to everyone having interviews this week and next!

Oh wow -- so sorry to hear that -- that really does suck. Make sure that you send some documentation to the embassy proving the car wreck -- who knows what thye might want to schedule the next interview.

Get well and get him here so that he can pamper you :-).

Well Mumbai did it again. I received an e-mail from Mumbai stating they were sending the correct (yeah, right!) Packet 3 to him. " We apologize for the error. We are sending the correct instruction package of K-1 visa to your fiancé today. Your fiancé may obtain a duplicate instruction package (Packet 3) at http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivforms.html."

He also e-mailed them and they responded with pretty much the same e-mail. We did look at the web-site. Looking at Packet 3 instructions it clearly says "Complete & immediately return the enclosed Form DS-156..." However the Packet 3 instructions my fiance received stated to complete the DS-230 Part 1 and I think it also mentioned the DS-156 and DS-156k. However he did not receive all the "enclosed" forms. I believe he only received the DS-156.

To play it safe, he downloaded and printed the other forms (DS-230 & DS-156k). We decided to send all of these forms in. If they do not need it at this time, so be it - better safe than sorry. He also printed the instructions from their web-site and will include that and a copy of the instructions he received noting the difference between the two.

Has anyone else doing a K1 through Mumbai had this kind of situation? I would not doubt that if we all compared notes - each one was somewhat different especially when the web-site and the mailed instructions are clearly different!

I know to expect this kind of inconsistency, but still it is enough to drive you crazy!!

Thanks for letting me VENT!!

Lori

Yes, they e-mailed me back, apologized and stated they had sent the correct forms to him that day. He also e-mailed them and I believe was told the same information. I am hoping he receives them before this weekend. I know he could go to their web-site, download and print them, but unfortunately he does not have a printer at his home. So we are just waiting. We figured we have waited this long, what is a couple of more days?

Lori

Lori -- that happened then? Did you hear back from the embassy?

KP

Well things may already have been messed up. I got a call from my fiance this morning and he told me they sent him a letter for a K3 visa not a K1 visa. Unless this is a standard letter they send for all K visas regardless if it is 1 or 3 something might be wrong. And there are a few differences posted on their web-site for documentation between both of them. I have sent an e-mail tonight asking for clarification and requesting the correct information be sent to him.

Has this happened to anyone else with a K1 Fiance visa - especially anyone going through Mumbai?

Thanks!

Lori

Lori -- I would start a thread for people from mumbai -- there are too many inconsistencies. There is an old thread with people from mumbai also.

Venting is good -- that's why this forum is here -- I'd say fill out and send in extra stuff just to be comprehensive. The extra stuff was returned to my wife when she had gone for the interview -- no biggie.

Good luck,

KP

Thanks KP. I have thought about starting a thread....just have not kicked myself in gear to do it yet. I also have the link you gave as a favorite on my pc. I have gone there many times reviewing different areas - not always pertinent, but still good information.

Thanks again!

Lori
