We are working on a K1. I am white american and he is indian. We are going thru New Delhi and our case just arrived there today! I guess it will be a few weeks before he gets packet 3 and several weeks for an interview. I think the process is getting ahead of us all of a sudden. LOL We have a ton of papers to gather now. He still doesn't even have his passport in hand!

Oh wow -- the process indeed got ahead of you :-). He needs to get down to the passport office and get his case expedited (there is a website where he can find out the status of his passport and it is accurate). It is not too many weeks -- it is about 6-8 weeks. It's boogie-time :-)

Awesome!!!!

just the fact that the USCIS messed up on his case while he was here.

OK partner -- here are a few questions I would appreciate some clarification on. I can copy and past your responses on the forum if you don't mind.

1. How long was the wait after the embassy got the case and sent out the interview date (or the first piece of communication)?

2. What evidence of communication did they require (I only have phone logs and photographs)?

3. Were you or your finace able to ever call the embassy and speak to anyone successfully? I want to call them and am curious. Did you try emailing?

4. This deal about dropping off the originals at the VHS office, is this for real? Is it painful? Painless?

5. Did your finace pick up her stamped passport at the VHS office or did did she get it in the mail? If she picked it up, then who did she call to coordinate it? My wife lives in a remote area and mailing her passport is not a good idea.

Thanks man,

KP

Here you go Buddy: All the answers you asked for!

1: Five weeks.

2: We took Phone logs, Engagement Pics, signed letters stating that we are still in the relationship, copy of my passport showing the entry and exit stamp showing my last visit to India in February, 06, copy of boarding passes and the itenarary. That was it. Your stuff should be ok but the more, the better!!!

3: We never called anyone but, I emailed the Embassy and got prompt replies.

4: Yes, it is for real! Not just real, VERY IMPORTANT! Your wife has to deposit all the docs with the VFS office atleast two weeks before the interview date. It is very painless as long as you have all your ducks in a row! Failure to deposit the documents in time can result in a reschedule of the interview date.

5: My Fiance is still waiting for her passport. It is going to come by courier (Not mail). They always return the passport later through courier. Even if your wife lives in a remote area she should not have any problems because it is delivered via private courier and not through the shitty Indian postal system.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks,

Vishrit

It seems that Mumbai embassy does not require it -- it wants you to bring the documents with you. Check out:

http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/k_visas.html#amc1

However, New Delhi embassy requires it. Point your browser to

http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/k_visas.html

This has all the information on K-1. Don't send anything to the embassy until the correct time. Just to be on the sure side, you could probably call the mumbai embassy...

Good Luck,

KP

Okay we're getting ready for our interview and getting everything together...anyone know what is included on packet 3(Mumbai)? reason i ask is i want to send it early cause the mail system is terrible where she is. can someone exlpain about this whole VFS office? i ready about it online and wasn't sure if applicants of K-1 have to do that? if so do we send it or in person? and how much do we have to pay including everything and to whom?
