As they say, "foreign films are best left to foreigners". :P

Das Boot

That's actually a good movie, but I absolutely hate Juergen Prochnow. He pops up in some absolutely terrible movies (a bit like a ####### that floats) with the one consolation that the characters he plays often die in nasty and extremely bizarre ways.

Speaking of which, a 1983 Michael Mann movie called The Keep, is a particular favourite of mine. Juergen's in that too - gets his soul sucked out by a demon. Which was nice.

It always bugged me that the submarine, survives till the end of the movie only to be destroyed by a plane - which conveniently does a strafeing run to machine gun Juergen, so that he doesn't live to see the credits.

Poetic Irony...?? :P

There was another Submarine movie I saw that I liked much better, especially the ending. Had Kurt Jurgens (you might remember me as the web-fingered villain from The Spy Who Loved Me) as a U-Boat Captain Vs. Robert Mitchum in his shiny American destroyer. I forget the name, but they all end up together in a life raft at the end.

the funniest movie I've seen in years, I was laughing so hard it made me cry

Das Boot was a 6 hour mini series to begin with. Cut down into a theatrical movie and added to for a directors cut. I liked it.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

They repeated the mini-series in the UK a short while ago. Shame Wolfgang Peterson went on to turn out some righteous garbage like Poseidon (the remake)

Dani...JUST rented Dear Frankie, and loved it! It is pretty much a chick flick though.

Rch..Craig and Corey just watched Kung Fu Hustle...I'm not the least interested, but they found it hilarious. (although I did find that main chick who could run like mad pretty funny...)

have anyone watched the brazilian movie City of god?

Yes. It's disturbing and depressing...especially seeing the really young kids when they gun down the one gang leader. :(
