Hero (Jet Li) is one of the best epic pictures that I've ever seen.

Three Seasons (with Harvey Keitel) is one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen.

Taeguki (or The Brotherhood of War) is one of the best war movies I've ever seen.

Savior (Dennis Quaid in an Oliver Stone production, not really foreign, but takes place overseas) will open your eyes to the reality of war in more ways than one.

Anything from the Wu Xia genre... Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, House of the Flying Daggers... All the Jackie Chan and Jet Li stuff and to include comedies also like Shoalin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle and we could even stretch it out to include the French movie Brotherhood of the Wolf.

And let's not forget about that classic Guy Ritchie flick - SNATCH

Steven Spielberg's "Munich" is an act of courage and conscience. The director of "Schindler's List," the founder of the Shoah Foundation, the most successful and visible Jew in the world of film, has placed himself between Israel and the Palestinians, looked at decades of terrorism and reprisal, and had one of his characters conclude, "There is no peace at the end of this." Spielberg's film has been called an attack on the Palestinians and he has been rebuked as "no friend of Israel." By not taking sides, he has taken both sides.

Talk to her" by Pedro Almodovar

Underground" by Emir Kusturica

I LOVE Almodovar. When is Volver going to hit US screens???

I'll ad Le Grande Voyage- a French/Moroccan film. I am showing at the College for our film series. Should make for a good discussion afterwards.

The Gods Must Be Crazy

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

Yes -- I find Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung just impossibly attractive in that film. Plus, she wears the most amazing dresses.

and on the subject of Tony Leung and Hong Kong movies -- this one was dying for the Hollywood treatment and is being released this week as The Departed with Leo and Matt

I'm a Kurosawa fan - Rashomon, Seven Samurai and Yojimbo are ace!

A mate of mine at uni was into Ingmar Bergman and tried to get us to watch Wild Strawberrys.

We were all drunk at the time, and all I remember is an old man looking into a mirror for a really long time, and a horsecart crashing into a wall.

Yep those are top. Peeps dont believe me when i tell them the makers of Magnificant 7 and For a few dollars more were taken directly from seven samurai and yojimbo. Then yojimbo/for a few dollars more was ripped off and made into a terrible movie starring bruce willis called last man standing!!!
