If you have been a permanent resident / green card holder of the USA for 5 years - you __MIGHT__ qualify to apply to USA citizenship.

If you become a citizen, then the processing time for an I-130 for a SPOUSE is much faster.

Do you qualify to become a USA citizen?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

The standard reply is 5 years from your resident since date on your greencard... you might want to read the "Guide to Citizenship" that is on the USCIS website to see if there are any exceptions that might apply to you.

YMMV

I have a question

Have continuous residence in the United States as a permanent resident for at least 5 years immediately preceding the date of the filing the application ( what does this mean )? That I'm suppose to have my Green Card for at least 5 yrs right? So I can go and come back as long as I don't give up my Permanent Resident?

Reside continuously within the United States from the date of application for naturalization up to the time of naturalization ( i'm guessing this means that once I apply for my citizen ship i'm suppose to stay until it's approved )?

Why i am concerned is because I go to my country every 6 - 7 months stay there for atleast 5- 6 months is this going to delay my citizen ship

You should try to avoid any "break" in your presence in the USA to 6 mos. or less, during your 5 years preceding your application

YMMV

the last time i went home to my country, i stayed there for 11months.. they questioned me coming back... but i was fine.. but they stamped "STAYED OUT 11MONS" on my son's passport... i did renewed my greencard after i got here last year and i was ok, thank God everything went perfectly fine.... but if you are trying to file for naturalization, you are supposed to stay here in the US and for vacations, to be safe... you should not stay that long abroad... 5and half is already too close for 6months maximum. ( just a thought)

but you said they never gave you a hard time everything you come back??? coz im planning to visit my husband for just a month this year... im worried if they're going to say something since we stayed there 11months..... for now im not interested in applying for citizenship though.... not till maybe 5 more years.

11 months wow im suprised they let u in back again.. They really cant say anythin to me because 5 n half months isnt exceeding the 6 months. I do go every summer for the past 4 yrs and they never questioned me only question the ever asked me is how long u stayed out and why. Once i tell them my husband is out of the country and i went to go visit him.. Then they asked me if i applied for him to come thats all.. In ur case change ur passport thats wat i will do..

Make no difference.

If she is already a resident then why is she being sent to immigration?

Because they are going to ask her questions about why she left for 11 months and why did she come back and why did she leave now they are going to question her absents trust me it happened to my cousin.. My cousin actually got kicked out he left for 8 months, he came back and he got sent to immigration they let him in after 2 yrs he went back this time he left for 2 months he came back they questioned him again asking him why he left for 8 months 2 yrs ago.. Then they started asking him why he left for 2 months what was he doing and such and such... After they harassed him they told him because you left for such a long time we are going to ask to leave and stay where you were visiting..

If she is already a resident then why is she being sent to immigration?

In november I also got sent to immigration and I have my green card.. Just because you have your Green Card doesn't mean they can't send you to Immigration..
