Ok, so I'm on my way to the Consulate to get my marriage certificate OFFICIALLY translated from Spanish to English. I know I can do the translation myself (according to what the Embassy told me) but I prefer to do it officially "just in case". Anyway, I'm also going to get my lease in which both our names are on it translated as proof of bonafide marriage. I have one lease from Feb. 2009-2010 and the new one from Feb. 2010 to 2011. Two questions:

1. Does it look like the new lease until Feb 2011 is NOT showing intent to move to US?

2. If I only send first lease and it JUST expired in Feb. 2010, does it look like we are no longer living together?

3. If I get one lease translated, is it necessary to get the other? It's EXACTLY the same other than the date. Since they charge per page, trying to save some money here.

My plan was to send both leases in Spanish and only one lease translated to English and add in my cover letter something about just the date being different for the second lease. Ideas anyone? I'm about to head out the door.

so i am assuming that you live in mexico with your Significant other, i understand your concern with it 'seeming' like you might not have intent to go to the U.S with the paperwork, but i doubt you would have to worry about that. Most people are trying to get papers to go to the U.S, so making it 'seem' like you or your SO wouldnt leave mexico is kinda contradictory, if that is a word. Do you have any ties in the U.S? anything from the U.S in both of your names? or even an ID or something from the U.S in your SO's name? something that shows ties? if you are looking for proof of relationship, then dont worry about having it look like you dont intend to go to the U.S, its usually the other way around, people with temporary visas not wanting to leave the U.S, not people with visas that dont want to go, haha. If you are worried about translating the documents, and it seems that you are, since you arnt doing it yourself, misewell translate them both, and do you have an updated lease or something showing that you guys do live together? a letter from a landlord or soemthings saying that you guys live together, just incase they think that you guys are no longer living together because the lease has expired. Hope this helps.

April 10, 2009-Biometrics appt. done, in and out in 15 minutes

Nov. 18, 2009-Card production ordered

Maybe and maybe - you haven't told us why you signed another year long lease - is that just common where you live? Here we can generally get a 6 month lease as well, that is why I am asking.

Why would you only send one lease though, it is what it is.

I would think having one translated would suffice, since the wording/leases are identical.

Not too worried about proving domicile or intent since I do have proof of permanent US address (even though right now we're living in mexico and doing DCF).

The updated lease is Feb. 2010 to FEb. 2011. Just got it! On the I-130, it lists "lease with both names" as evidence of bonafide relationship. Since we have it, might as well send it, no?

Just not sure if I should get both or just one translated since they're probably going to charge me double just to change the freakin' date. ha!

Yeah, the landlord only does leases for 1 year and since we probably won't get interview date for at least that long (since that's the going rate here in Mex), we assumed it would be perfect with a one year lease.

As I said, the plan is to send both leases in Spanish but just ONE translation since the only thing changes is date.
