Question for people with approved K1 visas already

Hi, I'm new to this board and just had a few questions about the K1 process.

First question is.. is my fiance required to have all her vaccinations done before she gets her VISA? According to the embassy website, it indicates that it is not required but they might deny her anyway due to this?

Second..

When my fiance gets her Packet, will it contain more information than just this?

http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwfivk1.pdf

Third..

I got the NVC letter with case number on July 14th. I have yet to recieve any information on when her interview is. I went to this website: http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3227.html and typed the case number but it doesn't give a date. When will I be able to check using this site?

Fourth...

I understand that the packet will contain the interview date.. does the packet also include the St Lukes Medical exam date as well or can she go whenever she wants?

And finally..

Is there something within the packet that cannot be opened until the interview? I think I heard someone say before that there is something sealed in the packet that cannot be opened or you won't get your visa?

Thank you for your assistance

I don't know all the answers but here are those I do know:

1. I'm not sure. Someplace I saw the list of vaccinations required to leave the country. As I've read in previous posts, those that are not required can be gotten here, but it's still best to get them there where it is much cheaper.

2. Without going to the site you posted, I know your fiancee will get all the forms and instructions necessary.

3. My fiancee got her packet and the interview/medical dates and it is still not posted on the site. She should get it about one month before her medical/interview is scheduled. I found out early by calling the NVC and asking them. The phone number is posted in the lnks at the top of the page.

4. The packet will contain medical and interview dates and times. Usually scheduled about one week apart. She can go for her medical anytime but the embassy in Manila suggests she wait until her interview is scheduled because the medical is only good for one year. Not likely there will be that kind of delay, but you've done good being patient with the process this far; a little more patience is still a good idea. The packet will also include a map to St. Lukes as well as scheduled date and time. My fiancee's medical is scheduled Fri. Sept.1. Since it is a 2-day medical, she will go a day early and finish Friday. I've heard Mondays and Fridays are busiest at St. Lukes.

oh, and finally, there was nothing in my fiancee's packet that said "do not open".

sixstringjunkie,

The INA does not require vaccinations for non-immigrants, only for immigrants, so many K-visa people do not have all their vaccinations prior to coming to the USA. That's why for adjustment of status a complete new medical exam is not required but the vaccination form is. That doesn't mean that some individual consulate might not have a more restrictive local policy.

If the completed medical exam forms are given to the visa applicant to take to the consulate rather than being sent to the consulate directly, the visa applicant should not open the envelope. (Or, you may be confusing the packet that an approved visa applicant is given to bring to the US POE with them with the visa inteview notification packet, commonly called Packet 4.)

I thought there was something in the packet that you cannot open? I'm wrong about this? They said that if you open it by mistake, you have to take it back to the embassy to have it resealed or else they won't accept it?

I'm talking about the initial packet the one that has the interview date, medical date, etc.. isn't there something in that packet that should not be opened until your interview?

As far as the vaccinations I understand that there is also an additional envolpe that you cannot open once you're in the states and get the TB vaccination you need to get something signed by a uscis surgeon and sealed? I'm not talking about that one, rather I'm asking about something within the packet that you originally recieve to come to the interview.. is there anything in there that shouldn't be opened?

i have never heard of anything in the initial appointment package that can't be opened.

what Yodrak mentioned is the only thing:

"If the completed medical exam forms are given to the visa applicant to take to the consulate rather than being sent to the consulate directly, the visa applicant should not open the envelope"

Yodrak

The brown envelope with the visa is not suppose to be opened until reaching POE here and then by the immigration officier. it that is opened you would have to go back to the embassy to have it resealed.

First question is.. is my fiance required to have all her vaccinations done before she gets her VISA? According to the embassy website, it indicates that it is not required but they might deny her anyway due to this?

Before her interview at the US EMbassy in Manila, she will take a medical exam at St. Luke's Clinic. During her medical exam, she will be given vaccinations like MMR and varicella (not required who had chickenpox history). For the TD shots, it is not available at St. Luke's, so she is required to take the TD shots here in US. She can take the TD shots at the civil surgeon designated by USCIS.

Second..

When my fiance gets her Packet, will it contain more information than just this?

http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwfivk1.pdf

The K-packet contains Appointment letter (to be shown for medical and interview), DS forms (DS 156, 157 and 156K), instructions for the visa fee payment, map of St. Lukes clinic and other important instructions regarding the interview.

Third..

I got the NVC letter with case number on July 14th. I have yet to recieve any information on when her interview is. I went to this website: http://manila.usembassy.gov/wwwh3227.html and typed the case number but it doesn't give a date. When will I be able to check using this site?

You will receive a letter from the US Embassy (Manila) a copy of the Appointment letter (same appointment letter in the K packet).

Fourth...

I understand that the packet will contain the interview date.. does the packet also include the St Lukes Medical exam date as well or can she go whenever she wants?

My K packet contain the interview date (including time) as well as the medical appointment date (time not included), she'll better very early in the morning). She can take her medical exam before her medical appointment date.

And finally..

Is there something within the packet that cannot be opened until the interview? I think I heard someone say before that there is something sealed in the packet that cannot be opened or you won't get your visa?

Maybe they are referring the sealed envelope together with the visa after the interview approval at the US embassy. After the interview, if she's approved, she will received a plastic envelope with her passport (visa) and a brown sealed envelope. She can open the plastic envelope for her to get the passport but she is not allowed to open the brown sealed envelope. There is written on the brown sealed envelope "Do not open". She will give the brown envelope to the immigration officer at the Port of Entry upon her arrival here in US.
