Even though I am from India -- one of the poor countries on your list -- I come from a well off family. I went to the U.S to study, met my husband, fell in love and we decided to get married. We could've AOS but we went the CR-1 route because I wanted him to meet my family, friends and see my world here. If he were well-versed in Hindi or Bengali, we'd consider moving/staying in India. But obviously, it's a lot easier for me to adjust/acclimatise there, having lived there for four years, than it would be for my husband to adjust to life in Calcutta. Eventually though, I'd like for us to live in India for a few years.

My USC husband doesn't wanted to live in my country. For the reasons that drugs and prostitution is legal and we are a socialists country.

Plus he hates living in a city and I lived in the middle of one. (We live in a valley here in US)

Yes I had a better life in my home country but I love my husband more than my country ;)

Love is patient and kind;

it is not jealous or conceited or proud;

love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable;

love does not keep a record of wrongs;

love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth.

Love never gives up; and its faith, hope, and patience never fail.

Love is eternal.

I don't know, we've lived in both places together. I tend to like the US better than the UK, but i'm not too bothered either way. I think it is the same for her, though I'll have to check back when we've lived here as long as we did in the UK.

I was feeling a bit stagnant in Australia and didn't mind the change at that time of my life.

My husband on the other hand had things he needed to finish here (his schooling and then PAYING for his schooling) so it made sense.

I prefer Australia in many ways, but the US wins in other ways too. The main thing I hate about the US is currently being unable to work :P But thats an easy enough fix. Oh, and driving on the left of the car, I'm left handed and it's weird having my left arm constricted (I understand that's more to do with being used to it than me being left handed, but my main arm is trapped and that still weirds me out).

We want to move to Australia at some stage, get him his Aussie passport before we have kids to worry about and uprooting them, but when that happens not quite sure right now. Having kids in Australia is cheaper, and I know my mother would appreciate it :D i'd appreciate not having to worry about my mother-in-law too. Tony told me his mother will expect us to name our child after her and will try to pressure me a lot to do that. Her name is Grace, and she would want it no matter the sex (she was going to name her last daughter "Dakota Grace" if she was a boy!).. weird.

**Side note - I wasn't particularly patriotic till I changed countries. I know that's weird and I loved Australia and all but it's true that only when you move or change things do you realise what you have and what you miss. Now I'm seriously considering getting some Aussie tatt (koala maybe, or a "made in Australia" tatt :P)

Woow. I lived there & I don't really mind the drugs & prostitution - I don't agree with the lifestyle but I don't care if anybody wants to do it.

I wanted to live in the United States. I had a dead end job going no where and only one friend back in Canada. I love the area my husband lives in and I wanted to be around it.

There seems to be more opportunity for me in the field I want to get into here in the US, and I want to go back to college for baking... there's more colleges for that here than back in the area I lived.

Many, many reasons.

Plus I love California weather :lol:

I moved to live with my husband, not moved to live in the US. We looked at the options pragmatically. His job paid about 3 times what mine did and mine was dependent on the vagaries of the Government. He owned a house and I rented. Both of our families lived at a distance from us already so there was no real need to stay because of family. It was just the most sensible choice at the time that allowed the two of us to be together.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Kathryn, your post made me realize that I didn't say I wanted to live with my husband, harhar.

I of course came to live with him, I just like the US too. From pretty much the beginning we decided I'd come to the US instead of him coming to Canada.

The US would just be the US if I just came to live here without him.

I feel silly not mentioning him, I just thought it was obvious :lol:

Echoing a few others, we debated a bit about which one of us would move to the other's country. I would have loved to have moved to Belgium, and I even had a good lead on a job doing exactly what I do here in the U.S. But she had spent 5-1/2 years in Texas for grad school and developed a love for the U.S. So I lost. But it doesn't matter to us where in the world we live. When her parents get older, we may consider moving back to help care for them. We figure that when we're old enough to retire, it most likely won't be in the U.S. OR Europe--too expensive. For maximum flexibility in moving around, she plans to go for U.S. citizenship.

My husband comes from a developing country (Peru) but comes from a middle class family and we would have been pretty much the same here or there.

Quality of education was one big reason we decided to live in New York. Although the cost of living is MUCH higher here. There I'd probably have more luxuries, but have to sacrifice in different areas (missing my family etc). We always think about moving there, pros and cons etc. He had a good job in Peru because his family owns a business, so it's always an option.

For now we are sticking to NY.

I've been in this forum for quite a while now and I've been observing the people who are seeking to immigrate to the US.

If we are talking about China, The Philippines, India and other countries mostly Asian is normal. But, I wonder why citizens from Canada, UK, Australia, and other EU countries which are no doubt has comfortable and better lives in their home country.

Why do they choose to move in the US anyway? :blush:

This is a very smart question. You seem to be saying that U.S. immigrants from China, Philippines, and India don't have comfortable and better lives in their home country.

To the OP: If you are the USC who petitioned your wife, I'm sure you are bound in thousands of debts so bringing your wife here shouldn't make your proud.

If you are a new immigrant from the Philippines, thank your husband for giving you a better life here after you've worked day and night in the Philippines but still not having a comfortable condition there and now that you are living comfy enough in the U.S., you are spending time online insulting people from poor countries.

How sure are you anyway that there are no vagabonds in Canada, the UK, Australia?

Because rich people are greedy and love there money. Moving to America gives them more of there money because of the lower taxes.

Its a dam shame that people are answering his question considering his tone and the lack of respect he is showing towards US.
