First tell us who you think qualifies as "the average American", Danno. Most Americans live in a census-designated metro area. Most Americans don't make a lot of money. Most Americans are white. Most Americans don't have a college education. So... is the average American someone who fits all those criteria? Is that another way of saying those of us who don't (say, college educated or non-white or wealthy or rural) matter less in these discussions?

Wow, you got all that from

"Most Americans?"

About a year and a half ago "most Americans" were in the mood to vote for Obama, can you tell me some issues he might stand on in 2012 that he can get a -Repeat performance?

No, I can't. The issues on which he's delivered are obscure and not the stuff that wins elections. On the issue on which he could have won an elections he's racked up a huge defeat (thanks mostly to his fellow Democrats).

I'm still wondering why "most Americans" would vote for Palin. What is her appeal?

Is it because conservatives love a pretty face, and someone who uses all the right soundbites?

Because she's not smarter than I am. That means she has 'common sense' (which has turned into shorthand for what an uneducated and uninformed moron who doesn't know any better would do). I can trust her. Why? Because if she screws me over, it won't be because she wanted to and outsmarted me, but because she's a moron like me.

Here I will go a bit slower.

If the Choice were "only between" Obama and Palin, they might just go with Palin rather than continue the Obama theme.

Now answer: They would vote for Obama for what issue?

My answer is - I don't care.

I don't care - because the only thing I am interested in from this thread is straight answer to this:

What is it about Palin, politically, that people find attractive? What is it she stands for, specifically, that people would want to vote for?

If you want to vote for someone who does little more than recite a checklist of soundbites and slogans at the podium, fair enough. Personally, I think that's bull$hit. But then again - I think people who have the right to vote and then deliberately don't exercise it are idiots.

The perception that she isn't a Wall Street #######?

Reasonable arguments can be made that Obama is. That Romney is. That every sitting Senator with the possible exception of Paul and Sanders and Franken are.

But Palin? She's a nobody. If she's whored out to anyone, it might be big oil. But big oil was the enemy two years ago, not anymore. Today everyone's mad at Citi.

Problem is, most people think 'common sense' is whatever they would do or say. Regardless of their own lack of background or experience. If it feels right to them, it's 'common sense'.

Apparently having a beer with George was common sense, when it came to electing a guy who was supposedly down to Earth, and not one of them darned, dirty elitists who made Joe the Plumber feel like an idiot schoolboy.

W might well have been a good drinking buddy and a fun party guy, but when it came to the business of getting down to work and brainstorming ideas - he preferred to outsource the whole operation to the Scooby Gang of #######, Don, Condi and Karl. His press conferences were somber, silent affairs, punctuated only by the whistle of the wind and always seemed to conjure up a distinct mental image of the President with donkey ears, turning a piece of straw over in his mouth.

Even the journalists looked uncomfortable - as if some seedy porno were playing on a screen behind George's head.

I figured you would not offer an answer... you never do.

As for Palin, I like her on a personal level but I am always amazed at people who are gung-ho about a politican who is essentially a great talker. (Like Obama)

I hoped she would have got elected to the Senate or some capacity where we could have "watched" her more on a national stage.

People foolishly form personal connections with Politicians and judgement vaporizes.

We saw this same thing with Obama, Of all the Black Churches in Chicago

the guy spent what, over a decade under the wing of that wacko racist Paster and Obamas followers never batted an eye.

Right. You like Palin on a personal level and because she hits your cliche buttons; yet you don't vote, but presumably you might for her - because you like her on a personal level (i.e "she's hawt")

Danno, you're useless.

Yeah maybe you are right, maybe reading 3 or 4 words (on her hand) and then talking for an hour "is" the same as being spoon-fed every single word of every single speech, no matter how big or small.

I guess I needed to include something about "intelligent" conversation. Maybe then you would understand the difference between the two, though I doubt it. I think that babbling incoherently, and eloquently delivering a well written speech, are 2 entirely different things, but that may depend on the listener. Some may listen to her and hear the Gettysburg address or Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty, or give me death". I am not one of those people. Again my issue was with her criticizing the teleprompter approach while doing the very thing herself, although in a different form. She is too stupid to understand that she looks the fool.

Yes - cute cartoon Danno. You could easily replace her name with Obama's and change a few media sources and it would be just as funny. My dislike for Palin was from the first time I heard her speak. Chances are it may have been on one of those media sources, hell; it may have been on FOX News. She hasn't gotten any smarter. Just for your edification, I don't read/listen (regularly) to any of the sources characterized in the cartoon. I fully admit that I do tune in, from time to time, to all available sources of news so that I am not getting my propaganda from only one place. Kinda balances things out don't cha know....

I thought I already demonstrated how "four words" is NOT the same thing as reading an entire speech, word-for-word is in no way "the same thing."

However to you it is... because "he talks smarter" when reading.

Thats cool.

What a perspective! Who taught you that?
