Hi VJ family sorry i havent posted since my husbands approval on Jan 11-10. its been crazy!! but finally good news. He was told to return and pick up his visa on Jan 22-10 only to be told that he needed to complete the DS230 form again, because they misplaced it somehow. Even though he signed page 2 during his interview, they lost the form. so my husband spent 2 hours trying to complete a government form, that he was not at all familiar with or even knew the answers too. for example, my parents date of birth, place of birth, etc. he had to call me at 230am to get this information.

after he finally completed the form, they told him they had to give him a new date to come back and pick up his visa (Feb 5-10). we were both so upset about this, i was even more upset when i realized what form it was!! because he had his file with him, with all of the copies of every form inside. he never thought to look inside his files. The DS-230 form, he had it with him all the time. However, even if he had given them his copy, they needed time to process it again. he was dissapointed in himself.

so thankfully all went well when he returned to the embassy on Friday feb 5-10, he received his visa!! I thought he would be jumping for joy, but he was so cool and calm, and emotionally devasted by this entire ordeal. we're both so happy this is over. I just want to thank my VJ family for your hugs and support.

Im so grateful to all of you. now i have to prepare for his arrival, im looking for the best airfares from ghana to sanfrancisco. i didnt realize one way fares were more expensive than round trip. pray for me.

Congratulations! :D

I've always just bought a round trip and forfeited the return when I've wanted a one-way.

Definitely try vayama.com. From Ghana, you can get some good prices. My husband is from Benin, and he's here on an extended visit. From Benin to my nearest airport, the only flight I could find, and the only flight we thought was available was with AirFrance and cost $4700 for a six-month rt (or $2800 for one month, but we weren't looking for one-month.) I did finally find (thank you VJ Sub-Saharan Africa forum) that if I went directly to Air Moroc website, I could get a six-month rt for $2700, but he would have had to change airports in NYC.

Then I tried Emirates Air website (again thank you VJ.) They don't fly out of Benin, and they wouldn't route him all the way to my nearest airport, but from Accra to the nearest international airport, a six-month rt would only cost $1800. So I went to vayama (again, thank you VJ) and put in the same departure and arrival cities, and a flight on United handled by Lufthansa with a MUCH better route from Accra to the nearest international airport costing only $1648 for a six-month rt popped up.

Out of curiosity, I changed the arrival city to my nearest airport, adding one leg to the flight, and it was cheaper! So he's here on a six-month return ticket that cost us $3200 less than the Air France ticket we have been thinking he would have to buy to get here. We will always fly via Accra from now on. My husband says it's a real airport there, too.

I know that I have prepared my husband with multiple copies of everything (hardcopy and softcopy) just in case. I think that there is so much paperwork, that we all get so over consumed with copies of copies upon more copies.

I am sitting here in my house thinking if he has enough copies of everything or if I need to print something else. In reading all of the VJers experiences with lost or misplaced items I am constantly thinking it is better to have more paperwork than less.

I will be so glad when my marriage functions more like a marriage and less like business transactions and my husband here with me.

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us...
