My sister proudly served in the army. Achieved the rank of Major. And for a time was commander of an army jail. She was the best shot, male or female, in her ROTC class. She served in two conflicts, the last being a year spent in Iraq.

Gay's have served, and are serving, in the US Armed Forces.

End of story... Except to say Danno can now add homophobia and gender bias to his long list of posted personality defects.

YOu have every right to be proud of your sisters service to country, I'm just not sure what her story means to the topic on the whole?

No one is claiming all women are brutally molested and considering your sister was an Officer, I suspect, put her at a lower odds of abuse.

By the way, I have an uncle who is 91 and in pretty good health who smokes.

Should we remove the warning of of tobacco products?

Sorry, not finding your citation of 2.6/1,000 on page 51.

In other words -

1. The DOD itself admits that the problem is vastly underreported. ALL the measured statistics we're going to quote at each other will UNDERESTIMATE the actual amount of assault going on. DOD estimates less than 10% are reported.

2. By DOD estimates, only 20% of those who report sexual assault on an anonymous survey are willing to report it officially. That would mean that of the 6.8% of women who reported on the anonymous survey only ~ 1.3% made an official complaint (that's still much higher than your stated 0.26%).

You want to hide behind the veil of attacking the OP article, and only that article. Not the phenomenon of widespread abuse in the US military.

Your words:

In other words, it's ####### because it doesn't happen to coincide with your comfortable view of the world, your reality.

ALC, I am not going to argue over whether the number of assaults is 5%, 10%, 30% or higher.

Frankly, ONE assault is ONE too many.

Yesterday, you told us of a buddy who died to enemy attack in Afghanistan. That is very sad, and as a nation we mourn the losses of our service members in combat. Why should be any less outraged by attacks on the women (and men, straight and gay) who simply want to do their jobs as professionals in the service? Why would you WANT to cover up the problem and pretend it does not exist?

I was wrong about my citation as you'll have to look at the link to Army FY08 Annual Report. See page 22 of the PDF file.

Underestimates don't provide an counts you still couldnt anything close to 30% of women in the military being raped. I'll believe your 1.3% of women who came forward with official complaints. If you really cared, you'd encourage women in the military to report these crimes to stop this conduct instead of blanket condemnation of the miltary with the article detailed and you never refuted. You just bought it all without reservation. I don't know if you were in the military saw this reprehensible conduct but so far no one on this forum man or woman veteran backed the 30% raped figure.

The point isn't that sexual assaults are wrong as we both believe that's wrong but to expect their wouldn't be a single instance is beyond reason. Worse is to grossly exaggerate the problem can claim most of men who served are rapists, condone the bad behavior or just don't care. I'm not part of a "coverup" as I would have urged any woman to report a crime when I was in uniform. As a matter of fact, I remember a South Korean man who claimed his civilian wife who stayed in a barracks room with some soldiers. I don't know why he left her or why she stayed or if she was raped. I urged the guy to report the incident and I was going to drive him to the MPs but he refused.

^^^The point Danno is making is that he feels right at home with the other clueless old white southerners at the tea party.

Free Spirit, how have you been?

I have not seen you posting for quite a while where have you been?

I know they have the "legalize Pot" thing coming to a head out there, been keeping you busy?

As for the Old white guys at tea parties.... sure I feel comfy with them ..who doesn't love freedom and the folks who stand up for it....... although the last tea party I saw was at a college gathering.

It doesn't make a lot of sense, I have to say.

But why aren't you upset about the persecution of overweight people in the military?

These people are hounded to change who they are and then kicked out at many, many times more than Homosexuals are..... and most of these people have no job performance problems at all.

They don't even have the shield of "Don't ask don't tell" they make these people -weigh in... to see if they are guilty.

Danno, does that make sense to you, honestly? Does it not embarrass you even a tiny bit to try to make any kind of comparison between being gay and being overweight in terms of fitness to serve in the military?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Fitness is not the point, personal are not kicked out for exclusively for failure to perform a fitness test.

You are aware of what 'fitness' means in this context, right?
