Filling 2009 Taxes

My husband and I were married in April of 2009. He started working in July of 2009 and therefore we have his W-2 forms for that. We are filing jointly. Of course he has a SS# by now. I was using TurboTax but have come up on a important question in my mind. On Step 6 (if viewing the print out of your State Taxes), #13, this section says, "Residents: Multiply line 11 by 3%. Enter the result here. Nonresidents and part-year residents: Enter the tax before recapture of investment credits from Schedule NR...."

First of all, my husband moved here in March of 2009...therefore he was not a full-year state resident. Since that is the case, I am not sure if this question should get answered differently then how I did. I'm not sure if his part-year residency makes this tax return need more forms filled out other then the 1040 and 1040A. Our taxes are pretty straight forward, nothing to add complications, no kids, no house, just had some interest payments for my school loan for me.

I am not sure if this is a big deal or not, but I'm thinking that this part might pertain to our situation or it's pertaining to thinking that if you were a part-year resident last year and lived abroad and brought back earnings for the US and therefore should get taxed on what you brought back over. I don't think my husband should be getting taxed on any of the money he brought over when he moved, since in the UK they already tax all of the money you earned for each paycheck.

Maybe my question is a little  or hopefully someone understands my ordeal and can help us out???

Please let me know who needs more, if any, clarification :)

Thanks a bunch,

skparker
