What size of UPS trailer did u rent?

I have a Mazda Protege and need to decide what size of UPS trailer I can rent for the big move.Since it's a compact car ,my hubby wants to rent the smallest trailer,but I really don't see any point renting that small trailer.I've heard that if u use the bigger ones ,it might damage your transmission.

Can u pls share your experience so I can decide what size of trailer would be the best?Did u have any problem with ur car afterwards?

As long as it's not all wheel drive you might consider just renting a "tow dolly"

Have you seen those little 2 wheel hook ups behind motor homes used to tow the little cars?

They rent for less than a trailer and you just have your drive wheels (likely front wheels) on the dolly strap the wheels down to hold the car on the dolly, while the rear wheels stay on the ground.

The dolly lights run off the tow vehicle and away you go!

It tows just as well as a trailer.

Do you mean the Uhaul trailers redblue? I've never used one but you are right about pulling anything being somewhat hard on your transmission.

yes ,I'm refering to the Uhaul trailers..that's how I'm going to move my personal belongings hopefully...I was wondering if anybody had any problem with their car after pulling the Uhaul trailer

no it doesn't come with a trailer hitch.we were planning to get installed one once we decide that would be safe to do it.

You might consider renting a U haul truck and towing the Mazda on the dolly.

Then you can haul as much as you want depending on the size of the truck you rent and take the car along too!

Compact cars don't have the engines, cooling systems, transmissions,bumpers, or brakes required for towing.

Yeah I would look in your owners manual. I have a Nissan Versa and it says specifically that its not designed for towing and that to do so could ruin my car.

Uhaul also has requirements for the trailers. At least it did we we got ours, they are supposed to check the vehicle thats towing the trailer to make sure it can.

You would be better off renting a U-haul van and towing the car. You won't damage your transmission that way and you will get all of your belongings down. The last thing you need to worry about is a breakdown on your way to your new home with a dead transmission -or having to replace a transmission after arrival. Both of those would be more expensive than renting the van and the car dolly in the first place.

I've got an '02 Sunfire and its manual indicated a towing capacity of 1000 lbs or less, not that it has a hitch or anything. If you can't find it in the manual call the dealership, they'll know.

Yep , read the owners manual!! And prop best idea is to rent a u-haul and tow ur car on the trailer u can rent from them! That was my plan, but I said screw it and sold (or gave away,lol) my car! Friends got a heck of a deal there!!

I had no probs with my U-haul truck--except it was dirty inside and I had to clean it. U-haul has a bit of a rep at time that their trucks are crappy! I told the manager I was traveling a fair distance and i wanted a mechanical sound truck! and he promised it would be!! Make sure u look over the truck before u leave--fluids, tire pressure. I got crappy gas mpg, but i was doing like 70 mph, so thats expected. U can get price estimates on the u-haul website. The milage they give you should be enough, but dont make too many errands, otherwise you will go over!
