There are only 2 things I like better about this country

1) faster speed limits

2) everything is way cheaper.

but I still miss home, and think Canada is the best place to live. :innocent:

I have to disagree....but again it is probably a location thing. Ontario drivers are much faster than New Yorkers...because the speed limits are enforced much better in the US. I'm just talking about Niagara Falls, Buffalo etc. Prices are pretty comparable for a lot of things...however big ticket items are usually cheaper in the US. A house comparable to ours just across the border is half the cost..pretty attractive reason to move!!

I'm in the NY area and I think I have the best of both worlds in terms of public libraries.

The Westchester and NYC public library systems are awesome.

For food, I'd rather be in BKK.

I agree with this list, Australian's are definitely friendlier.

To be honest there's a lot about America that makes me miss home. The poor education rate (Australia is 1st on the education index, America is 19th, on par with Lithuania!), and the horrid chocolate being two of them. I don't HATE being here, but it definitely is different and makes me appreciate home more.

Things I like, definitely cheaper here. Jeans! Jeans are everywhere and they come in all sizes and fit SO much better than jeans at home (unless you pay out of the nose for them!). Electronics are cheaper (can't believe the price of a nice sized flat screen LCD TV! and Kitchenaid mixers!), food is cheaper, movie tickets, jewellery etc are all cheaper and there's a wide variety of almost everything you can think of, making your choice HARDER :P. Oh, the $1 menu at Maccas (McDonalds)

Those are really the only things aside from my husband being here.

Australia has better healthcare, better education, better workmanship, nicer people, my family, better support for low income earners, better chocolate, better lollies/candy, better Maccas (it's cooked fresh). I say "better" but I suppose I mean different, I do miss a lot about home but I'm trying to remember that America is a different country with different ways and it will just take some getting used to.

I disagree I live in a rural place in America and the people are very friendly. I think it depends on where you are from in America if you are in NY or the east coast they might be ruder but if you are form a city with 250 people everybody knows your name and says Hi.

As far as education the colleges here are the most advanced in the world. More people form other countrys come to our colleges than any other. I have also heard 90% of all inventions since WWII came from America

Simple comparasin

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_U...E2.80.931959.29

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_inventions

The reason we rank lower than Austailia in education is because our grade schools are overcrowed and under funded with a flood of immigrants from the south.

Lots of things I like in America like cars, stores, weather and prices of technologies much cheaper. I know people from my country are one of the friendliest and happy. Miss some of the food from Phil too but good thing I can find it here in US also. But what I miss the most in my country are the beaches. I know my country have one of the most beautiful beach like Boracay. ^^

I Know here in Atlanta GA people are much nicer than other big busy states. So I guess it really depends on what state some are friendly some are not. ^^

I think Canadians are much friendlier than Americans (except all my American friends, of course!!!!)

I love the cheap meat, alcohol and car prices in the U.S.

I love paying less income tax in the U.S. than we do in Canada.

It's just a tiny bit warmer here in the U.S. than it was where I lived in Canada.

The things I love about the United States:

1. My in-laws are cool (especially my Mother-in-law who treats me like her own daughter. We go shopping together. When she found something that she knows I like, she buys it and give it to me. She spoils me. She washes my clothes every time I stay to her house. My father-in-law cooks. Most of the MIL's in the Philippines (but I am not generalizing) are not like the Mother-in-law I have. My Mom did have bad experiences dealing with her MIL (my grandma) I am glad that I am not experiencing the bad things my Mom experienced before.

2. I love the WIDE roads, freeways and interstates and that they are all mapped out. It's easy to go to different places using a map. Road signs and traffic signs are everywhere.

3. I love the washer, the dryer and the dish washer because I can multi-task.

4. I've improved my cooking and baking skills here in the US because all the ingredients and spices that I've ever dreamed of are available here.

5. I love the US mailing system because every household has its own mailbox and you can also send mails and ship packages at an affordable cost, you can add tracking number, too.

6. Rescue 911 responds fast.

7. Hockey!!! I'm a Blues fan.

8. Electronics are not that expensive here.

9. You can buy a lot of things that can make your daily tasks easier to do and can make you save a lot of time and effort.

Hi Everybody,

I just wondered if there was anything about the USA that you like better than your homeland. I read a lot about things people don't like so I'd like to hear if anything in this county is good. I haven't had a chance to travel the world so I don't really have a good point of reference.

And one specific question:

Are the people you've met here more or less friendly than your homeland?

Thanks,

Kevin

nop! I think that Canada and the States have a lot in common, so I would have to say in my case, nop!

I agree with! I find it also has to do with the individual person, are you a friendly person or not would basically sum it up. I find that it just depends on where you are and what your doing on any given day. There is friendly people everywhere in the world,

Based on my experience, there's a lot actually that I like about the U.S and there are that I don't. And also having been to different places (U.A.E Kuwait and Iraq) I can say that it made it compare things too.

THINGS THAT I LIKE HERE:

I like how the traffic goes here, its far from perfect because of some dumb drivers but it's much better than RP's flow. They actually follow rules. I like how the government actually exist and justice being served. I like how they preserve history and all that stuff. I like how courteous and open-minded people are.

THINGS I DON'T LIKE: how the food have so much flavor on it but actually don't taste good. ( Like someone I know talks about his wife's amazing fried cabbage when in fact it was just sliced cabbage burnt with some cooking oil..It's crazy! where's the nutrients on that?). I don't like the reality tv shows. Especially about some dumb kids teaching other kids to be dumber. Excuse some of my not-so-nice words.

For the friendly issue I think the point is, my country is friendlier to me, as I belong there, maybe if I had no accent and didn't look brazilian I'd be able to verify how friendly americans are to each other. I think generally a person's country will seem more friendly to them, unless the country really is on the cold side. I think overall strangers in stores etc are more polite in US than in Brasil though, but I still found my country to be more friendly to me. :P

My wife & I were sitting in a food court at a mall the other day and I commented about the mix of people there. It's really quite amazing to me and it has only increased over the past 25 years for sure in that particular town. It's a University city and that has a lot to do with it, but it is still amazing. There must have been people from at least 10 different countries eating together and probably more and it's in the midwest, not a big city. The same goes for the company I work for. We have such a diverse group of people. We have people from Italy, China, India, Africa, Greece, The Netherlands, Central America, and of course North America. This in a company of less than 30 people. I think diversity is one thing that makes the USA great and always has. Some of the strongest, brightest, most determined people in the world end up in the USA.
