Has anyone used the site britishcornershop.com ?

Before I leave for the US, I need to ship over 12 tins of felix cat meat, 2kg of cat biscuits, 12 litres of Ribena, plus tea bags and some other "essentials".

I was originally going to go with www.britishfooddirect.com but I did some research prior to ordering from them, and there are quite a lot of bad reviews on them. Also, I emailed customer services 3 or 4 days back with a query, and haven't had a response since. I think that's not a good sign.

So, I'm thinking of going with britishcornershop.com now. Their shipping rates are really competative, though the products themselves are pricier than most other online stores I've seen. Still, they look promising, and they do at least sell everything I want to buy.

Just wondering if anyone here would recommend them?

do you mind me asking why you're shipping 12 cans of Felix over?

Heh, it is a bit of a strange order, isn't it?

It's because I'm taking my cat, Sally, with me when I move. She has a really sensative stomach, so I don't want to change her diet right when we arrive in the US. They don't sell Felix over there, so I'm having to ship over 12 tins of the stuff to last her for the first month - by the time we run out, I'm hoping Sally will be settled into her new home and we can start trying to find a US alternative brand. We did look at trying to change her cat food here in the Uk to some brand that's also available in the US, but anything we could find she either 1) can't tolerate or 2) would be cheaper to send the felix.

That makes sense. I once tried to change a cat's diet too quickly in the past and it resulted in projectile diarrhoea. :dead:

Thankfully, we should only need to feed her Felix for the first month. After that, I'm confident we can find some alternative. It's just that with all the stress she'll be under already with moving to a new location, I'd at least like her to have a familiar diet.

I'm so glad my fiance is as much of an animal lover as I am. He utterly adores her, so at least he doesn't mind at all the expense of feeding her Felix for a little while.

If you hadn't already planned on this method I recommend you start adding the new food to the Felix after a week or so and gradually reduce the amount of Felix over time. That's how I eventually managed it.

I used them to order some marmite & sweets for hubby...no problems at all.

We'll have 12 tins that I'll send on ahead of me, then will bring extra (as long as there's space) in the suitcase. Hoping to end up with 16 tins in total. 1 tin lasts her 2 - 3 days, so we should have a supply of at least 32 days. That's enough time for her to settle, and for us to introduce the new food gradually. And, if it does take a while to find a brand she can tolerate, it gives us room to do so.

That's good to know. :) What were the delivery times like? I'm planning on ordering early March, and I won't be arriving until mid-April, so there should be plenty of time for my order to arrive. But I don't want it to be stuck in transit for too long, in case there are extreme weather conditions.

If I remember right, I just chose the standard shipping rate, and I'm sure it arrived within 2 weeks...

Will you be allowed to bring it in? I had a feeling meat products weren't allowed so I did a quick check and found this.

That's an interesting point. I was thinking cat food would be okay, because it's tinned. Now I'm not so sure.

I would hope that being a more established buisness, britishcornershop.co.uk wouldn't list items for sale that would be turned away at customs? Ugh. Now I'm worried. I guess I could email their customer services and see what they say...

I believe that companies who import a significant amount of meat products have import permits so they are fine. It does mean though that you won't be able to mail any Felix over in advance or take any with you in your luggage.

Why not get in touch with Customs and Border Patrol first? Give them a call or drop them a line and see if you can sort this out before you purchase anything. :)

Yup. I think I might just do that. Wouldn't want to spend lots of money on pet food and then find it won't be allowed into the country. I could try emailing britishcornershop.co.uk and asking about it also.
