what if you underestimate but you are wrong? For example, Alla says we will spend $200 on groceries and I disagree and underestomate that we will spend $150, but then we actually spend $225.

You're missing the temporal aspect. Under and over estimates are discovered only after your estimate is known to be wrong. You cannot underestimate the future, which is unknown. Therefore:

"Alla says we will spend $200 on groceries and I disagree and underestimate that we will spend $150, but then we actually spend $225." You underestimated, but it wasn't revealed until the actual number ($225) was known.

Bottom line in all this is that I don't think Obama can speak without a teleprompter and if Bush did this ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, The Daily Show would have been sure to run it, but will not say anything about wonder boy screwing up.

Yup. Obama talks like a f###### retarded light skinned president with no Negro dialect, unless he wants to have one.

So why do the retards keep bringing up Bush?

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

If only you read the original post. GWB is not mentioned.

You don't really have much of a sense of perspective, do you.

George W Bush embarrassed himself nearly every single time he opened his mouth in public, that's quite an achievement. There are entire books filled with quotations of his. Not just a few books either - entire sections in bookstore humor departments are dedicated to him.

Yet Obama does it a couple of times and suddenly there's equivalence. That's just childish.

Just maybe... its because GWB hold the world record on verbal gaffes.

I'm assuming that you meant "it's" and not "its" and "holds" and not "hold." I think it's ironic that you failed to even conjugate your verb correctly while bashing a man for his lack of skill with the English language. Or are you referring to GWB in the plural?

Anyways, that's just one sentence. Imagine if you had eight years.

If you can find humour in that missing apostrophe, let me know. Personally, I think you're reaching a little too far...

What you want me to believe is that George W Bush was like every other politician when it comes to these sorts of things - that his gaffes were unfairly inflated to make him look stupid.

Now it probably isn't fair to suggest that the man IS stupid, but it was abundantly clear to me that he didn't have a grasp of the issues when he was required to do more than read his teleprompter. That's why more emphasis was placed on his verbal screwups.

One of the most telling moments of Bush's presidency, I think, was after he announced at a press conference that the US doesn't torture and a reporter asked him about private security companies doing just that (on behalf of the US government). He was visibly thrown for a loop and said he would have to "ask the Secretary" in order to get to the bottom of it.

We can joke about these verbal gaffes - certainly everyone makes them, but in Bush's case it proved to me that he just wasn't intellectually qualified for the office he held and that he was little more than a puppet for people like ####### Cheney who were pulling his strings behind the scenes. Bush should have been able to answer that question, it shouldn't have had him floundering in public - especially over a subject that so many Americans were deeply divided about at the time.

Not once did I ever get the sense from Bush that he really knew what he was talking about, rather that he was (at best) being heavily coached through debates, not unlike Sarah Palin - and that if notes were forgotten or the earpiece failed, that the best he would have would have to fall back on would be party political slogans and soundbites.

Now naturally someone could and probably will say the same about Obama, because the schoolyard neener-neener is just how they roll in VJ OT. I can't say I'm impressed by Obama so far, in point of fact he shares quite a few similarities with Tony Blair. I've never gotten the sense from Obama that he is clueless when it comes to understanding the issues he is confronted with. I never got that with Blair either. What Blair had (and Obama has) IMO is a fundamental dishonesty, that appearances are more important than actual change, and that all one needs to do is make things appear ok in order for them to be that way.

Please avoid racially denigrating slurs and attacks. They are unacceptable and add nothing to the discussion.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I miss him already, what a comedic legend.

Obama has got a long way to go to match what Bush did for comedy. Edited by JimandChristy
