My husband is toying with the idea of buying an e-book reader. He has looked at the Kindle and the Nook so far. There are pros and cons for both of them, but I thought I would ask here if anyone else has purchased and is using an e-book reader, and if so, what make? What features do you like and what do you dislike? Any comments?

Hubby got me a Kindle for Christmas. I LOVE IT!! SO much cheaper to get a new book via Kindle that having to buy it and then store it. I'm an avid reader so books tend to pile up.

Kindle is all I really know so I can't compare it to anything else. I have had no problems with it, book downloads are done in 60 seconds.

Kindle is the best atm (unless you want the iPad).

The Nook has too many drawbacks - piss poor battery life, a touch-screen interface that is hard to use and an online bookstore that is next to impossible to navigate. The only selling point for the Nook is the ability to share books, but what they don't tell you is that that feature is crippled by rights issues - meaning that some publishers don't give permission for their books to be used that way, and once you "share" a book, you aren't able to read it yourself during the sharing period.

Wait for the ipad.

The kindle and nook are one task devices and NO color screens.

the ibook store from apple will be amazing because apple is light years way from amazon and b&n in digital media sales. (itunes store controls 97% of digital music sales)

Amazon is fighting with the big publishers because of prices

b&n does not have the software and hardware technology that apple has.

I will be getting an ipad when they are out in 50 days $499 model

Yeah but when you're settled on buying something purely for reading spending $500 is a whole other proposition than spending $250. iPad is grossly overpriced imo, given that it doesn't do much that the iPod doesn't already.

I don't own either but I've done a bit of research into them. From all I've read and from speaking to people with both Nook and Kindle, and someone with just a Sony e-reader, Kindle seems to be the best value. More books available, better applications, roughly the same price. We are looking into the idea of having students buy these because so many textbooks are being made available.

I am a bibliophile all the way, but I love the idea of being able to go on vacation and have a library with me!

The Kindle II uses an ink-technology where it turns itself off when the text appears. The text remains on the screen while the unit is off. This reduces so much energy consumption. Very neat! I'd recommend the Kindle. An e-reader shoudn't be a computer. Remember that!

Its also cool that the Kindle battery lasts up to 2 weeks.

The Nook is lucky to last a couple of days - the touchscreen and WIFI really kill it.

And well, "Nook" makes me think of sexytime. Kindle is more like "hey, I'm kindling the fires of my imagination by reading."

Well that would be "Nookie", "Romp", "Rumpy-pumpy", though those would be weird names for an e-reader.

Didn't know about Nook.

Well, turns out Nook also uses Digital Ink. I still like the Kindle better.

Yeah it does, but the battery life is horrible. Even with the WIFI switched off you're still going to be charging it every 3 days.
