As I said, you might want to read a book to learn why the statues are kept up. I don't think any of us here need a lecture on who Lenin actually was.

OMG MOX STFU I WANTS TO HAZ LEKSHURE!!!

You're off topic...again. Who Lenin was IS the topic. Frankly, who cares why a few of the thousands of statues remain? Too costly to tear down, the local authorities don't want to be bothered, or a few old commies protected them. Most have be toppled. One exists in Fremont, Washington...the leftist place in America. Gays have dressed it up in drag from time to time.

I don't think anyone is interested in your commie book of the month club.

Revision of history.... sans the reason you hear a lot in Russia in regards to "Great Patriatic War", yet Russians don't say much about the "Molotov - Ribbentrop Pact", the "Soviet invasion of Poland", "Katyn Forest Massacre", "The occupation of the Baltics", or how the USSR was NAZI Germany's #1 trading partner up until Operation Barbarossa. The USSR even lent a naval base to the NAZI's so that Hitler could go around the Allied blockade that was set by the Brits.

And at least they meet.

Brings a tear to my eyes. It really does.

That is because their programming tells them to think this way. Make no bones about it; the government controlled the schools and instructed the students accordingly on what is acceptable behavior.

Alla and I had a very nice and revealing conversation about her childhood schooling (programming) one night a bit ago after consuming a bottle of nice Merlot. She also told me about how she became to be a blond after moving to Moscow some years ago from southern Russia. Very interesting indeed; and it wasn't to pick up guys.

This last weeked we toured around the old bunkers of the former Joliet Army Ammunition Arsenal (now Federal Tallgrass Prarie grounds) and how many of the munitions manufactured there made theire way via the North Atlantic to help Mother Russia (something the history books in Russia fail to mention, like Lend Lease).

The Allies backed Stalin because he was against the common German enemy but revealed their true feelingsupon meeting in Berlin.

Yes yes Russia is a beautiful country with beautiful people, who love it there (but most would make improvfements if they could).

This link down below provides a good read in regards to your post. btw nice post. :)

Textbooks rewrite history to fit Putin’s vision

sigbet.jpg

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

You could say the same of the US or just about any other country.

And we've been "programming" our own students in this country since pretty much day one, just like every other country. For a recent example, because Texas basically controls the text book industry through sheer volume, they hold a lot of sway on what goes into text books throughout the country. The link about Putin rewriting Russian history is particularly ironic, since the Texas State Board of Education is currently in the process of rewriting US history. And since the TSBE is pretty much made up of evangelical Christians, you can imagine how they're slanting things. As an example, Thomas Jefferson is no longer included among writers influencing the nation’s intellectual origins.

I know Russia's got a lot of problems, and I doubt you'll find a single Russian citizen who would say otherwise. But we are far FAR from perfect ourselves.

Bible thumpers in Texas, Kansas, etc... have twisted and perverted history/US education. Yes the US has it's own share of problems, and yes Bush did use 9-11 to push the NASCAR mentality Americans to buy into his utter bs in regards to the invasion of Iraq.

On the other hand Russia has a one party system, and Belarus has had the same two bit dictator running that country since 1994 not to mention the ROC (Russian Orthodox Church) is infested with KGB/FSB parasites...like the Patriarich.

All major media outlets in Russia and Belarus are controlled and/or connected to the government. FOX sucks, but it's nothing compared to what goes on in Russia and Belarus in regards to utter media bs.

A great liberal ploy...change the subject and pull from the liberal cue cards. We are speaking about Russia...so lets stick with that topic. America is not comparable to Russia. It's a bad analysis.

Personally, I'd rather have conservative Christian people deciding about text books than gay or feminist, socialist/atheists living in La La Land in San Francisco. Our education system swung way too far to the left over the last 40 years. Our colleges and universities are pumping our kids heads full of hate America, socialist/atheist garbage. The feminist agenda is so strong on campus it's impossible to bring men's studies on campus. I know...I have a male professor friend who tried and got his balls handed to him.

Hooray for a swing back to basic truths...not leftist indoctrination.

PS: If "Fox sucks" it does so well enough to slaughter the cable competition.

Well, maybe Texas (and Minnesota) are more like Russia than the rest of the US.

As we say, smart people live in the Midwest!

I also agree VV, Mox you're out of line with your smoke screen comparing the US education system to that of Russia (especially of old).

No, none is perfect, but at least we all don't have to wear the same sweater!

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

So it's fair to say Why_Me wouldn't live in any FSU area. I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't see anything wrong with people having their own opinion. I also don't believe it correlates to if or not someone loves their significant other (an erroneous analysis set out in this topic).

I would think it's a good idea to understand and at least have some appreciation for their culture however; but everyone has their own relationship.

I think it's fair to give him credit though because he's pointing out his beliefs of the controlling governments and not classifying all Russian citizens as bad people or something. After all, they're not that different than us. I know many of them disagree with their own government, just as many of us disagree with our own government.

I can't say I agree with his beliefs, but their his own.

I also think trying to argue which country does it better is pointless. There are some things we do better and some things they do better. And "better" is in the eyes of the beholder.

Trying to describe a country as it's history isn't a fair perspective either. Most countries are in a perpetual state of change. You can easily say the US and Russia aren't the same places they were 10-20 years ago. Are we changing for the better? Well, that's for your own to decide.

Personally I could care less where we live, just as long as it's with my wife.

What will you do for a living?

Teach English, for a start. I would need to improve my Russian, but it's doable.

I could also work in her fathers business, or possibly for a transport or tech company interacting often with the EU or US.

None of which would pay well compared to my salary, but the question was about would you do it, not if it would lead to early retirement.

Except for the last possibility listed, I know the salary ranges on such jobs. Here, she has the option of not working. There, it's not much of an option.

RE: Belarus in general and their lovely government..I definitely don't agree with dictatorships, not matter how much it's claimed democracy, but some of the "results" for common people may not be so bad.

Unlike some countries, they do at least manufacture some of their own goods, a middle class does exist, etc. Of course, there's plenty of "New Russian" money as well, but hey, life is full of compromises.

I'm not saying it would be my first choice to live there, but would I, if there was no other way to be together? Yes.

You didn't get what I was saying then. Because Texas has such a controlling interest over the text book industry, the books your kids are reading in school are being shaped by the Texas State Board of Education. Won't take much Christian activism to make sure that the rest of the union is like Texas too.

I also agree VV, Mox you're out of line with your smoke screen comparing the US education system to that of Russia (especially of old).

I don't see how it's out of line to say that childhood indoctrination is nothing unique to Russia, and is in fact alive and well here in the US. Striking Thomas Jefferson from the history books seem to me to be about as nefarious as anything I read in the Putin article.

No, none is perfect, but at least we all don't have to wear the same sweater!

Actually there's a lot of research to suggest that there's a direct correlation between grades and school uniforms.

Well if I had to live in a FSU country it would be either "Galicia" (western Ukraine) or "Vladivostok, RU" (people there tend to not buy into the Kremlin's bs/propaganda).

Batka Lukastinko is working both sides of the coin atm. He got mass loans from the Kremlin, and he just received the last installment of a $700,000,000 loan from the EU. I pray for the day a bullet finds his head. He's a criminal...murder, kidnap, extortion, etc... the list goes on and on. The younger generation in Belarus is ready for a change, but the old guard USSR thugs aren't willing to relinquish power. Belarus time is coming, and when it does I wan't to be there for the celebration.

As far as living in Belarus, I find the peoples of western Belarus...Brest region, Grodno, etc...more friendly than the peoples of eastern Belarus ...like Vitebsk and Orsha. They actually smile at you and converse in the stores in western Belarus.
