It sounds like a small black bear that is a cinnamon color. By the size about 4 or 5 ft nose to tail I guess it's about a 2 or 3 year old. I think it came out of southern BC/Oakangan area possibly.

Sounds like it. Brown/grizzly bears have a prominent "hump" to their shoulders and have a very steep "forehead". Black bears have a sloped forehead and no shoulder hump. The size is more likely a black bear also. Other than the normal necessary documentation, balck bear parts, including taxidermy can be imported. But she still needs the documentation that it was legally killed.

Dude, you have outdone yourself -- I will amaze friends & relatives, and hold audiences spellbound at cocktail parties (kicktail parties, if black bears are present) with this crucial information, si man. :)

When hiking in bear country, use the "buddy system" and always take a companion, carry honey in a squirt bottle, like a ketchup bottle, and wear tennis shoes so you can run fast. I know, I know, it is impossible to outrun a bear that can go 35 mph for short distances, and running only infuriates them and makes them want to kill you, BUT....with tennis shoes you CAN outrun your buddy. Squirt the honey on the buddy you brought along first, then run like hell!!!!!!!!

:ot2:

This advice is specifically for people who do not want to import bear parts.

Thanks Krikit.

It would appear that either...

1. Bear parts and products are not importable OR

2. The mount has to be sent to an autorized taxidermist.

You can thank the black market catering to the oriental demand for bear parts, particularly gall bladders, I know this has casued the imposition of strict import guidelines. It seems to me I read about the ban on brown bear parts and products. Another optin wiuld be to contact a hunting outfitter in BC and see what they say about it, what do they advise their clients? Rules change and it has been 20+ years since I hunted bear in Canada (as opposed to hunting "bare" in Canada which is advisable ONLY in summer months)
