A CD of his favourite music might also be a nice gift. Or tickets to a concert or performance that he wants to see for the two of you

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

I'm going to guess he's still in Canada at the moment? If so, and you're still dealing with the distance, I'd suggest getting (or knitting!) him a scarf or gloves to keep him warm during the winter while you're not together, or check out this website for some good ideas. :)http://www.lovingfromadistance.com/giftideas.html

If you guys ARE together (yay!) you could still probably do the above, but I'd suggest something you guys could do together. Like maybe a cooking class or something. :) Or like others have suggested, something that is meaningful based on your relationship and memories. :)

Wow...is it normal and commonplace for a guy to get a Valentines gift FROM the lady in his life? Have I been missing out? Do we need a Secret Cupid here on VJ?

I can't speak for anyone else but I always get my husband a little something! Usually its just a card and something chocolate and/or candy related. Just a little something to make him feel special.

Well there's an idea. I don't think there's a man out there that would mind that kind of gift!

Yup. You have been missing out. Gift giving is a two way street.

I am reading this thread thinking, am I the only one who hates Valentine's Day.

Chris arrived in Edmonton one year on Valentine's Day. And he insisted that we had to go out for a romantic dinner. I refused time and time again. Finally I relented and told him we'd go someplace romantic to appease him.

I took him to the Motoraunt.

Hahaha. Too funny, MrsCat!

You know, I DO get my wife flowers or chocolates for V-day, but the thing is...I get my wife flowers throughout the year for no particular reason at all...just as little gifts to say, "I'm thinking of you". I've always found Hallmark holidays a tad annoying...and so does my wife, to some degree. She wouldn't be upset if I didn't get her flowers etc. on V-day. In an ideal world, the sentiment behind those V-day gifts will exist the other 364 days per year as well.

I'll say the same thing about most holidays though. ;)

I completely agree Wyatt.

I just reminded Chris that we'd be in Edmonton for V-Day, and asked if he wanted to go to our spot. He said "You're such an ####."

I can say, my husband's daily gift to me is his patience. Cause I'd have kicked myself out a long time ago.

Funnily enough, my wife says that to ME sometimes too! I don't think I'm a particularly patient person...I just love my wife, shenanigans and all. I bet Mr. Cat is the same way. :)

I am curious for some ideas on what to buy a Canadian man for Valentine's Day. I want to get my fiance' something special but I really am at a loss. Any ideas or suggestions or what to avoid buying for this important man?

A LONG RED RIBBON, about 2 to 3 inches wide, about 4 meters in length.

Then, show up at his house, disrobe, and carefully wrap the ribbon around yer body.

Bow is optional.

Good Luck !

os - PS - if you want to get him a book or something - I recommend 'The Five Love Languages' by Chapman.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
