"The blood of a Muslim may not be legally spilt other than in one of three [instances]: the married person who commits adultery; a life for a life; and one who forsakes his religion and abandons the community."

“There is no such concept in Islam that is called “honor killing”. Islam holds every soul in high esteem and does not allow any transgression upon it. It does not allow people to take the law in their own hands and administer justice, because doing so will be leading to chaos and lawlessness. Therefore, based on this, Islam does not permit such killings.

First of all, in order to sanction killing, it must be through a binding verdict issued by an authoritative law court. Individuals themselves have no authority either to judge cases or pass judgments. Therefore, a Muslim should not sanction such killing because doing so will be leading to the rule of the law of the jungle. A civilized society cannot be run by such laws.”

"The so-called “honor killing” is based on ignorance and disregard of morals and laws, which cannot be abolished except by disciplinary punishments."

Honor killing is the bone chilling horrific cruelty committed by the family members—father, mother, brothers, brother-in-laws, even in some cases own sisters also. In this terrible episode the victim is always the daughter/sister or other blood related young women who get killed. Perpetrators are always the family members stated above. Family honor is one of the core values of Arab society. Anything from speaking with an unrelated man, to rumored pre-marital loss of virginity, to an extra-marital affair, refuses forced marriages; marry according to their will; or even women and girls who have been raped—can stain or destroy the family honor. Therefore, family members (parents, brothers, or sisters) kill the victim in order to remove the stain or maintain, and protect the honor of the family. Killers are given light sentences, sometimes with little or no jail time at all. The killers mainly defend their act of murder by referring to the Koran and Islam. Family guardian will say that they are merely following the directives set down in their Islamic ethical beliefs.

The Islamic leaders really do need to start some serious outreach programs to get this to change.

I lived there for 4 years, if there's one thing I learned is that people there don't change overnight, I had a bf who drove around in a Lexus in Dubai but still went home to his family who lived in the desert, sleeping on the floor and drinking camels milk. I actually thought that was pretty cute. And if it's generally believed that it's part of their religion then there's really not much the government can do, as most of the Muslim countries are theocracies.

The case has caused outrage in Turkey and reopened the debate over so-called honour killings which are particularly prevalent in the predominantly Kurdish south-east of the country.

The fact that there needs to be a debate shows me that there moral compass is way off and thinking your going to get thru to people like this is a waste of time, quit talking start demanding!!!

As usual we got the crowd of people here at VJ that feel they need to step up and tell us how all Muslims are not like this, we know!!! The problems is there is a significant amount of this BS going on and we need to starting treating it as a serious problem and quit worrying if were going to offend all Muslims, jeez.

Because ignoring people's cultural norms and telling them how they should behave has been shown to be a really effective strategy, as history so beautifully illustrates.

It's their country, Simpson. Its not for "us" to do anything.

Good thing "it" doesn't happen in the US or UK.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Of course, when it does, it's a different matter all together as they're expected to abide by and suffer by the laws and cultural norms of that country that they choose to move to.

It's the attitude of France today: "Do yo ####### like you want in your country, but you aint gonna do that same sh1it here and get away with it" lol

Pressure on a world stage, sanctions, do whatever it takes but to act like we should do nothing and ignore it because it just a few debates away...well thats ridiculous. What do you propose we do? Nothing because its not our country?

Because ignoring people's cultural norms and telling them how they should behave has been shown to be a really effective strategy, as history so beautifully illustrates.

Once again thinking we could have a productive debate with such backwards thinking is a joke, by demand I mean do things that are effective not debate, say this is how its going to be and how do we get to that point.

It's their country, Simpson. Its not for "us" to do anything.

BS we can stay within the law and do plenty, we as a whole need to condemn this, its there country BS needs to end. I am not saying go to war or anything extreme like that so you dont need to go in that direction. But to act like we cant do nothing is pathetic.

Lots of bad things happen to people who live in the US and the UK, and very often the bad stuff comes from within families, sadly. However, it's not 'culturally acceptable' of course.
