Hello all, I'm flying out to Dallas on monday with my shiny new CR1 visa :) I've looked through the reviews of the POE, but I still have a couple of questions. 1) which line would you advise me to stand in at immigration. and 2) Which forms do I fill in on the plane? the White landing card I assume? Anything else?

thanks guys!

Fill in the white I-94 and the blue(ish) customs form. When you get to the arrivals hall have your brown envelope in your hand and someone will hopefully direct you to the right line. If no-one does, go to the visitors line.

I hate to disagree with the lovely Muffin (because she has a mean left hook!) but since you are entering on a CR1/IR1 visa, you do not need an I-94 form. You will only need the blue customs form. Since you are coming in on an immigrant visa, no need for an arrival/departure card. If the airline staff are adamant you take one, humour them but stuff it in the airplane seat pocket. :P Best of luck for a safe flight and welcome to America! :star:

elmcityraven is correct, you don't need either the white or green i94 or i94w forms, just the customs one. However, on saying that, when I got to Philadelphia there was someone directing people to lines who clearly did not know it says on the i94 form that is is not needed for people with an immigrant visa..

reads: This form is meant to be completed by all persons except ..[text removed].. aliens with immigrant visas ...

Although I didn't need it, I guess the rules are, whatever they say goes, even if the form says otherwise ;-) I lost my place as number 4 off the plane because she made me fill one in. I ended up near the back and a 10 minute wait at a line. I would advise to hedge your bets and fill one out just in case, even though you don't need it.

Thanks for posting this. I'm flying out tomorrow morning to pick up my fiancee and returning on the 10th through Charlotte. I wonder if they will let me in the same queue with her. I suppose they can always tell me to go to the USC queue if they don't like it.

Good luck and have a safe journey!

My husband used to tell the immigration officers that I was his NON USC wife, I was always allowed to go through the USC line with him. Its worth asking!

Whoops!

I thought everyone with a visa had to complete the I-94, I thought only USCs and LPRs were exempt. I'll shut up and get my coat now.

Maybe you have to do a white form with the K1, but not with a CR1 as the K1 is technically classed as a non-immigrant visa (I think?) as opposed to the CR1 which is Immigrant? I think i'll do one just in case!

K1s and K3s have to do I-94s because they are non-immigrant visas; they will need them for AOS later on. CR1s and IR1s are immigrant visas and have no need of an arrival/departure record. When you enter, you will receive the I-551 stamp which acts as your proof of permanent residency until your physical green card arrives. The moment you do your POE, you become a permanent resident, hence no need for an I-94.

Sucks that there are idiots like the one NotworkSte encountered. :(

post that has its own thread removed so not to hijack the OP's thread

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
